Title: What God Hates

[Min Byeong-seok’s Commentary on Proverbs] 14 Things God hates (Text: Proverbs 6:12-19)

It feels good to be loved by someone. Love is more beautiful than hate. It can be said that this is great happiness, especially if you are loved by someone who deserves respect. Among them, it is truly a wonderful blessing for a person to be loved by God. But on the other hand, if you are someone who is hated by God, there is nothing more unhappy and worrying than this. In verses 12 to 15 of the text given to us today, the actions of the evil one and their consequences are revealed, and in verses 16 to 19, up to seven sins that God hates are specifically pointed out.

1. The secret to receiving God's love

Before we list the sins that God hates, let us learn the secret of being loved by God.

Here it is said that those who love God will be loved by God. How can we love God?

(1) To love God, you must first understand God's love. 1 John 4:10 says, “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that God loved us and sent his Son as the propitiation for our sins.” God's love was thus revealed through his Son as a propitiation for our sins. Therefore, only those who understand the will of God as to why He sent His Son into the world can love God.

(2) Next, the best way to love God is to believe in the one sent by God, His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. God wants us to believe in His Son as evidence of our love for Him. He who does not believe in the Son cannot say that he loves God. He said that he who has the Son has the Father, and he who does not have the Son does not have the Father.

(3) He said that the evidence of love for God is shown in his obedience. In John 14:15, Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” In John 14:21, Jesus said, “He who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.” Please see verse 24. He said, "He who does not love me will not keep my words. The words you hear are not mine, but the words of the Father who sent me."

Am I a person who loves God? The test method is very clear and simple. How much I live a life of keeping the Word of God is judged by how obedient I am. You can never deceive yourself because this is a judgment of your faith and conscience.

(4) Next, I will say one more thing. God loves those who repent of their sins. In the parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15, the Lord said, “In the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety righteous persons who need no repentance.” God honors those who love Him like this, and gives them riches and wealth, long-term wealth, and the intention to promise life.

In verse 12, the image of a wicked and evil person is shown, and we should be careful about our actions after seeing these words. Please see verse 12. What about the bad and the wicked? He said that he opened his mouth for deceit. What comes out of such a man's mouth is no truth, no love, no mercy, but an evil scheme. It is to choose only those that deceive, deceive, and falsely frame people. I said winking. It is evil to keep secrets from others and to pass secrets to others with a glance. This is what you do when you are trying to deceive someone with something when you are not confident. He said he would show his will with his feet next time. And I told him to let me know with his finger. This, too, comes from the same meaning as a glance, and should be avoided. He said that he always harbored rebellion in his heart. It is said that we do not harbor peace, joy, or gratitude in our hearts, but rebellion. Such people always plot evil with their neighbours, and wherever they gather, they cause commotion and strife.

But does God's blessing come to such people? Is disaster coming? Please see verse 15. 'How then? Why can't I get help when it comes on suddenly? I can't afford to get help because it came all of a sudden. When do I fail? You will be destroyed immediately.’ Do you believe?

2. Seven Sins God Hates

Please see verse 16. Did you say that there are some things that Jehovah hates, that is, there are some things that he hates? (Six or seven) Then, what are the six or seven sins that God hates? Knowing these well and living wisely while avoiding these sins is the Christian's blessed life.

(1) First, God hates proud eyes. In verse 17, the first of the sins that God hates is the ‘prideful eye’. Prideful eyes refer to people who live with proud eyes, which means proud people. Why do people become proud? Having a lot of wealth makes you proud. When you are poor, you are humble, but when you are rich, you become proud. However, because wealth is God-given, we should give thanks to God and use it for good in accordance with God's will, not pride. Because God opposes the proud, when a person is proud of his wealth, he takes it away. So you lower it. Having authority makes people proud. Elevate your status. Have the power. It is easy to become arrogant. But God humbles the proud. It was Park Jeong-hee, Chun Doo-hwan did it, Roh Tae-woo did it, and Kim Young-sam did it. Look, if Kim Dae-jung walks a proud path like them, he will walk in their train.

Pride manifests itself as pride. Pride manifests itself as contempt. Pride manifests itself as contempt. Being proud of yourself, always looking at others with contempt, and contempt for others is a result of pride. All of the sins of people can be recognized and corrected by repentance, but there is no cure for this religious superiority or pride that comes from knowledge or spiritual gifts. What we should be afraid of is to keep in mind that God is giving a more severe warning against this arrogant sin than all other sins.

(2) Next, God said that he hates a false tongue. A false tongue is a lie. Lies come in many forms. There are blatant lies, evasive lies, and sly lies. Lying in any form is a sin that God hates. Why does God hate lies? Because lies came from the devil as a way of opposing God. The devil mobilized angels from heaven to oppose God. This lie tricked Eve into eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Even now, the devil deceives people with lies so that they cannot follow the truth, and with false heretical doctrines, they cover up the light of Christ, the brilliance of God's glory. Lies contain a terrible toxin. When the toxin enters the Word of God, it kills a person's soul, and when the toxin enters the family, it destroys the family, and when it spreads in society, it disturbs the social order, causing sickness and ruin.

(3) He said that the next sin that God hates is the shedding of innocent blood. It refers to a sinner who does not hesitate to do cruel things with his hands. Our hands should be used for beautiful things. We must be able to reach out to help our neighbors. Hands used in caring for the weak and the sick are beautiful. The hands of a shepherd who is responsible for the spiritual life of his flock, studies the Bible, and prepares sermons are truly beautiful.

How beautiful is the hand that dedicates itself to the church. How precious is the hand that mops the church bathroom and sweeps the yard inside and outside the church with a broom, and how precious is the hand that holds each other's hands and leads them without resentment or disappointment when faced with difficult situations both inside and outside the church. If these beautiful and precious hands were used to harm others, those hands would be those that shed innocent blood. God hates such a hand.

(4) Let's look at the next verse 18. He said that what God hates is “a heart that devises evil schemes.”
