Title: What Happened on the Mountain
Luke 9:28-36 What happened on the mountain. Topic: 15. Prayers and Answers. 2000. 12. 3.
◎ Introduction
: Through the transformation of the Lord, we can learn more about who Jesus is and what kind of life we should live.
You have to learn a lot.
※ background ; Jesus took the three disciples (Peter, John, and James) up the mountain (28)
* Jesus needed supportive fellowship and prayer because of the pressure.
* Jesus now needed to keep and prevent the public spread of rumors about what was about to happen.
1. Prayer on the Mountain (28-29)
One). Jesus prayed. (28)
(1) Jesus needed a very special strength to cope with the pressure of the cross.
※ At the time of the Transfiguration and in the Garden of Gethsemane, God gave strength to the Son in a wonderful way.
* He could bear the sins of the world. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
(2). It was an event that satisfied the special needs of Jesus Christ.
① The cross was placed right in front of him. (Bag and weight)
②The disciples had to learn a lot, but the time was short. (The spiritual and eternal way of salvation)
※ God will always meet the needs of those who pray and seek God's help.
(Psalm 91:15, Isaiah 41:17, Jeremiah 33:3, Luke 11:9~10, John 14:14, 1 John 3:22)
2). Jesus' appearance and clothes changed. (29)
(One). The disciples needed their faith to be strengthened to face the work ahead.
※ They were allowed to see Jesus shining in glory for a short time.
“The splendor of the glory of God, the image of his being” (Hebrews 1:3).
(2). Appearance has changed.
① “His face shone like the sun” (Mt 17:2) “He became white as light” (Mt 17:2)
② His clothes became dazzling and sparkling white. “It became white as snow” (Mark 9:3) “It became white and brilliance” (Luke 9:29)
(3). Jesus was praying when this change took place
※ The need of Christ was urgent, and God provided it in a very special way.
(2 Corinthians 3:18, Phil 2:15, Job 11:13-17, Psalm 34:5, Ecclesiastes 8:1, Dan 12:3)
2. What Happened on the Mountain (30-35)
One). Two men appear and talk with Jesus. (30-31)
(One). The disciples needed the uplifting power and insight of the Spirit of God.
※ Jesus was about to be put to death (Matthew 16:21), and it was necessary to understand the spiritual significance of the cross.
※ The disciples must now be dramatic witnesses, and the transfiguration of Jesus will arouse their conviction.
(2). Moses and Elijah appeared and talked to Jesus.
※ It is a symbol of the fulfillment of the law and the prophecies of the prophets as the great lawgiver Moses and the great prophet Elijah appeared and served. (Luke 24:26-27, 1 Peter 1:11)
(3). The conversation was about the death of Jesus.
※ Our faith and hope are realized and fulfilled in Christ. (To live abundantly and forever)
(John 5:24, Hebrews 2:14-15, Revelation 1:5, Romans 8:1-4)
2). The three disciples were there to prove the case. (32~33)
(One). I needed to realize that Jesus was far greater than the great lawgivers and prophets.
※ Jesus is the One who was foretold in the New Testament and the covenant between God and man (Matthew 5:17-18, 2 Corinthians 3:6-18), who fulfilled all the laws and prophecies of the Old Testament.
(2). The three disciples tasted the glory. (Peter, John, James, )
※ In the presence of God, there was joy, peace, security, and completion in heaven.
(3). Peter's suggestion: The disciples did not want to leave this holy land.
① Proposal to build three booths for Jesus and the two prophets
② “If the Lord wills,” he tried to act according to the will of the Lord even in this glorious moment. (Devotion and loyalty)
(4). The result of glory and exalted experience is training to serve where necessary to serve the lowly.
(Isa 58:7, Romans 15:1, Hebrews 13:3, James 1:27, 1 Peter 3:8)
3). Clouds covered them. (34)
(One). The disciples needed to see the glory of the spiritual world and the reality of life after death.
※ God's purpose is to save mankind forever so that they can be transferred from this world to eternal life after death, and the Messiah of the Cross was God's method for that purpose.
(2) The clouds and the voice of God frightened the disciples. (so you can't look down with your face on the ground)
① That “shining cloud” was the glory of God's manifestation.
② The “bright cloud” is the new covenant (salvation and blessing) (Hebrews 12:18~24), and the old covenant (law) is dark and threatening. (Ga 3:10)
③ “This is my Son, my Beloved” This concept is the only begotten. (John 3:16, Romans 8:32)
4). There was a sound in the clouds. (35)
(One). The disciples needed to be reminded of the future glory of Christ.
※ Because God's love and grace were revealed through the cross and he saved the world. (Matthew 16:21-28)
(2). “This is my son, the chosen one; listen to him.”
It is God's counsel and warning. (1 John 5:9-12, John 8:26, 17:8, Acts 3:22)
3. Amazing silence (36)
One). The disciples needed, for a brief moment, a preview of the glory they would experience at the time of the resurrection of the saints.
※ The disciples saw two Old Testament saints living in a glorious state. (Luke 9:30-31)
He will rise from the dead to dwell with his disciples.
2). Even Jesus stayed on the mountain all night in silence, without a word.
3). It is time to have a quiet time to meditate on the Lord in silence.
“Shit and do not sin. Lay down, speak in your heart, be still” (Selah)” (Psalm 4:4).
(Proverbs 10:19, 17:28, Acts 19:36, 1 Thessalonians 4:11, 1 Pet 3:4)
