What is Open Worship?
Justice
Open worship is a new type of worship that has never been seen before in the 2,000-year history of Christianity, and is completely different from traditional worship rituals so far. refers to the form of Open worship is also called 'Community Worship of Love'.
Origin of name
In our country, open worship is derived from the name 'open concert'. A concert and an open concert are both in contrast to the nature, character, object, and form of music. When it comes to conventional concerts, classical or traditional noble music, such as classical music or song, has been sung, and people who go to concerts have been courteous even in their clothes and manners. However, an open concert is a mixed concert in which noble songs such as classical music and hymns are sung together with vulgar popular songs. Therefore, people who go to open concerts are also free-spirited in their clothes and manners. This open worship originated from the concept of an open concert.
There is no name for open worship in English. Although the beginning and base of open worship is the United States, there is no word for open service in English. The English equivalent of the name of worship held in our country is 'seekers service', and this name is generally used to evangelize unbelievers, that is, worship with the same character as a neighborhood evangelism meeting. say
meta-church
Proponents of open worship argue that the church must first become a 'meta-church'. So what does 'metachurch' mean?
Among the words ‘metachurch’, ‘meta’ comes from the Greek word ‘metanoia’ ( ), which means ‘repentance’. Metanoia is a compound word of two words, 'meta' ( , later) and 'nus' ( , knowledge), and the literal meaning of this word is 'to change one's thoughts or purpose with later knowledge'.
Metanoia in the Bible refers to repentance (Matthew 3:8, 11; Luke 3:8; 15: 7; 24:47; Acts 26:20; 2 Corinthians 7:9, 10, etc.). Repentance refers to a change of knowledge, a change of emotions, and a change of will as a result of later realization, that is, an immediate realization of sin, deep contrition, and a willful conversion from sin.
However, the proponents of open worship misuse and distort the biblical and theological meaning of the word 'repentance', so that 'metachurch' is a radical change in the way of thinking, ceremonial structure, and form of worship that has been passed down. They say the church In other words, it is a church that brings about a fundamental change in the traditional way of thinking about the church. Metachurch (Meta Church) emphasizes the transformation of a new consciousness. Metachurch means 'a church that is turning, a church that is becoming' (Carl F. George, The Coming Church Revolution, pp. 26, 27). "We must change our minds and wills so that we no longer hold onto our old ways" (p. 26).
In Part 3 of his other book, How to Break Growth Barriers, George argued that in order to be an open worship church, all obstacles to open worship must be removed. He also asserts that the devotional life becomes a stumbling block for the growth of the church, so all of them must be removed and converted into a whole new form of worship (Carl F. George, Prepare Your Church for the Future, section I). Therefore, open worship refers to a new type of worship that completely overhauls the traditional worship concept, ritual structure, way of thinking, and worship style.
According to their assertions and theories, the traditional worship rituals that have been observed so far are wrong, and all those who claim that those who worship God must worship God in spirit and in truth become stones of stumbling blocks. Is that correct? Such radical ideas cannot but be very evil and wrong ideas that overturn the tradition of godly worship.
change of external structure
Advocates of open worship not only emphasize the transformation and change of concepts, ceremonial structures, and ways of thinking about traditional worship services, but also emphasize changes in the external structure of the church.
First, they say the pulpit should be replaced with a small mobile table. That good and expensive large podium was removed and replaced with a small movable table. It is made of plastic, glass or wood, and wheels are attached to the bottom so that it can be easily moved from time to time depending on the purpose. They do not value the pulpit and the pulpit like this. They are free to use the pulpit as a venue for festivals or other gatherings. And they rebuke us not to idolize the pulpit.
Of course, we do not idolize the pulpit. But we do not equate the pulpit with the rest of the world. This is because the chapel is where the saints worship God in spirit and truth, and the pulpit is where the word of God is preached. Just as a potter makes from the same clay, one precious vessel and the other lowly one, and each uses it according to its purpose (Romans 9:21), in a large house there were not only gold and silver vessels, but also wood and earthen vessels. Just as there are things that are used honorably and there are things that are used lightly (2 Timothy 2:20), the same materials are used to make sacred scriptures such as pulpits and podiums and use them honorably, while others make worldly things and use them modestly. We call them holy things or holy furniture because the utensils used in the church are holy things according to the words of the Bible (Leviticus 5:15; 12:4; 19:8; 22: 2, etc.). We can never equate the pulpit where the Word of God is proclaimed with the stage of worldly dance and theater. We must not commit the sin of not distinguishing a pulpit or a pulpit from the things of the world.
Also, proponents of open worship put benches without backrests used in places like bars in the chapel and have people sit on them when they sit. In addition, a dedicated lighting device is installed in the chapel so that the pulpit can be converted into a stage for singing, dancing, or plays. It is more dazzling, loud and luxurious than the neon signs of urban red light districts or the lights of dance halls.
Also, they set up flower beds in the church pulpit and fill the pulpit with flowers or flowers so that it doesn't look like a pulpit. In addition, large captions or electronic signboards are installed behind the church pulpit. As gospel hymns or Bible verses appear in electronic display subtitles, the congregation is distracted by looking at them, and the notion of 'my Bible, my hymn' will inevitably disappear. Most people who attend open worship churches do not carry Bible hymns. Traditional hymns are not sung at all. In addition to that, they install very professional broadcast sound equipment in the church.
forms of worship
Churches that watch open worship are always busy and always tired. Since an open worship service is regarded as a festival event (Event/Festival), it takes a huge amount of people, time, finances, and materials to hold such an event. Therefore, they are always busy, always tired, and nevertheless always wander in a state of hunger and dryness of the soul.
The worship of the New Testament church, the worship of the Puritans, and the worship of the traditional conservative churches were biblical. There were fervent prayers, loud hymns, offerings of thanks, living words, and the sacrament. How is it different from the worship style of churches that have open worship today?
However, open worship is a worship in which no form of godliness can be found, let alone the power of godliness. Rock music is Satan's music. Open worship is never true worship before a holy God. Even in the world, when attending any ceremony, they do not wear clothes that are out of manners, and besides, they are ministers and ministers who lead worship and proclaim the word of God!
Do not use instruments such as electric guitars, guitars, drums or keyboards to sing classical music or songs. The orchestra uses instruments such as violin, cello, viola, contrabass, trumpet, trombone, clarinet and horn, but no guitar Drums are used in different ways depending on the song. The reason not to use instruments such as guitars is because the sound quality is not in harmony with each other. However, in the dance hall and rock music of the world, the guitar is the main instrument. The problem is this. How can we use instruments that are not used in the church to perform noble music that has artistic value in the world? But these instruments are being used because the church has been corrupted and the church music has also been corrupted.
