Title: What is your happiness index?

Contents

Deuteronomy 33:29 What is your happiness index?

Not long ago, an organization called High Family (CEO Song Gil-won) released a ‘happiness index self-diagnosis table’ that can convey one’s own happiness index. This diagnostic table, which reconstructed the happiness formula presented by British psychologist Carol Roswell and counselor Peak Cohen to suit Korean conditions, is based on personal characteristics (view of life, adaptability, resilience), survival conditions (health, interpersonal relationships, financial status), and higher levels of happiness. Conditions (self-esteem, expectations, ambitions) were taken into account. To the following questions, you need to answer on a scale of 0 points for ‘not at all’, 10 points for ‘clearly yes’, and 1 to 9 points depending on the degree if somewhere in the middle.

1. I enjoy hanging out with people and my life is lively. I don't have much resistance to changes in the environment. ( ) 2. My outlook on life is positive, so even if I fail, I stand up like a dwarf. Believing that I am the protagonist of my life, I tend to be good at self-regulation in any situation.( )

3. My family acknowledges and loves each other and has a good relationship. ( ) 4. I am physically and mentally healthy and enjoy every day. ( ) 5. Regardless of the absolute amount of money I have now Without it, I think I'm rich.( )

6. I do my favorite hobbies or leisure activities on a regular basis. ( ) 7. I have friends and colleagues who I can share my heart with and give and receive help. ( ) 9. I have a clear vision and hope for life, and I do my best to make that dream come true. ( ) 10. I feel rewarding and satisfied with what I am currently doing. ( )

Result

The results of the happiness index measured through the 10 conditions of happiness are as follows. * 91-100 points: A life full of happiness. It's time to share that happiness with your neighbors. * 71~90 points: This is a life in which the secrets of life are already known and enjoyed. You must know that happiness lies in the heart of contentment.

* 51-70 points: Sometimes you are happy, but sometimes you want more happiness. Dream comes true. * 31-50 points: You are fully qualified to be the protagonist of happiness, with infinite possibilities. Create happiness by exerting the power of breastfeeding. * 30 or less: The point of hitting the bottom is the recovery time. Let's take it one step at a time towards happiness with a new heart.

In 2003, the Social Development Institute of Seoul National University surveyed the happiness index of Koreans on 1,200 adults aged 20 and over nationwide. As a result, the average happiness index of Koreans was 66.5. If you look at 60 points as the cutoff between happiness and unhappiness, it seems that you are barely living out of misery. If so, how much do you think the happiness index of all of you who immigrated or studied abroad to Canada, a happy country? Please answer once. 99 points? 88 points? 77 points? Is that 66, the average score for Koreans?

And when asked what factors determine a happy life in this survey, about 70% said health. Daum was followed by economic power of about 11%, love at 6.5%, faith at 5.2%, and stable employment at 2.8%. And similar results were obtained for the conditions of happiness surveyed by the Ministry of Public Relations in 2001. Health 37%, family love 35%, money 14%, success and reward in work 7%, emotional stability 3%, religious belief 3%, other 1%.

What do you think is the determining factor for a happy life? As the statistics show, most people think that they are happier if they are healthier than others. I believe that if you are financially wealthy, you can be happy. I think that if you achieve your dreams, you will be happy. Of course, these could be the conditions for happiness.

In particular, as the Bible prophesies, in the last days, people love money very much and there are many cases where money is the measure of happiness. If you calculate the happiness index in this way, whenever the money in your bankbook decreases, your happiness index decreases, and on the contrary, as the money in the bankbook increases, the happiness index increases. And when choosing a spouse, if you meet a rich spouse, your happiness index increases, and if you meet a poor spouse, your happiness index decreases. Of course, there will be people who agree with this opinion and others who don't.

Rather, poor countries in the third world, such as Bangladesh, Azerbaijan and Nigeria, showed higher happiness index. The materially prosperous G7 countries such as the United States, Japan, Canada and Germany should be happy, but they cannot. According to the Wall Street Journal report, when the happiness index is calculated as 7, the happiness index of the rich is 5.8. The happiness index is divided into 7 grades, and the higher the number, the higher the happiness index.

However, the happiness index of the Inui people of Greenland and the Masai people of Kenya in Africa was 5.8, which is the same as the world's richest people. The happiness index of the world's richest people is 5.8, which means that the happiness index of peoples who are suffering from hardships and hardships around the world is the same. What is even more surprising is that the poor in Calcutta, India, also showed a whopping 4.6 happiness index. In other words, it shows that being wealthy does not mean being happy. In other words, it shows that it is a wrong judgment to equate material wealth with mental happiness.

And just as money determines the happiness index, people think that if the environment improves, they will be happy. For example, I think the happiness index will increase if one's house changes from monthly rent to jeonse, from jeonse to one's own house, and if you own more real estate in your own house. If you think like this, people with many houses and lots of land will be happy people, and those who don't have a home will be unhappy.

Moreover, there are many cases in which modern people compare their happiness index with others. For example, if someone has even a little more money than you, I think he's happy and I'm unhappy. If the happiness index is determined using this calculation method, a person with 10 million won will feel unhappy when he meets a person with 100 million won, and a person with 100 million won will feel unhappy when he meets a person with 1 billion won.

And if someone else is more talented and handsome than I am, then I think he's happy and I'm unhappy. Also, if someone else's spouse or lover is better than his or her spouse or lover, then he is happy and I am unhappy. If it is your wife, your husband, or your family who decides happiness or unhappiness in everything compared to others, the happiness of that family depends on others, so in the end, the foundation of happiness will shake uneasy. it will become

Take the case of Jesus. When he was born into this world

You weren't born in a luxurious palace. He was born as the son of a carpenter in a lowly stable. And the town where Jesus grew up is also a village called Nazareth. So, people at that time knew that Jesus was a Nazarene and ignored him, saying, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” In short, Jesus had no money and no hundred. From today's worldly point of view, Jesus had no conditions for happiness.

Jesus also said to himself, “Foxes have dens, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head” (Matthew 8:20). Was Jesus' life unhappy because he didn't live well? No. Jesus lived his life happiest than anyone else. In a way, he could not get married and died on the cross, so it would be a very unhappy life. The reason is that Jesus lived while enjoying heavenly wealth, heavenly joy, and heavenly happiness, that is, Jesus' happiness was happiness from God.

Everyone, happiness in the world comes and goes. As you get older, your health, which is thought to be a condition of happiness, declines. And when the moment of death approaches, you will also be separated from your loved ones, whom you consider to be the conditions for happiness. Money that you think brought you happiness also leaves you. In other words, the conditions for happiness in this world are temporary and fleeting. Regarding this world's happiness, King Solomon confesses, "Vanity, vanity, vanity, vanity, all things are vanity" (Ecclesiastes 1:2).

Of course, modern people may say, “Even if the happiness of the world is in vain, I hope I can enjoy it to the fullest like Solomon.” Of course, that's not to say the material is bad. It's not that material things prevent happiness. To be honest, we need material things. The material world is a world of blessings created by God, and it was created to make us happy.

However, without God, material things are simply operated to satisfy my desires, and without God, even if you and I live in a good environment, that happiness will eventually become an illusion. In other words, happiness without God is steamed buns without an oyster, a hearth without fire, and then what? Everyone, even here in Canada, finding happiness without God is just chasing after a mirage.

Today's text Deuteronomy 33 is the last sermon that Moses gave to the people of Israel just before he died. In verse 29, Moses says, “Happy are you, O Israel.” In fact, the Israelites never looked happy at this time. They were weary of 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. Although it is the land of Canaan as long as they cross the Jordan River, they have not entered it yet.

Moreover, to take possession of the land of Canaan, we must fight fiercely with the powerful peoples there. But Moses says, “You are a happy man.” Then he explains the reason for his happiness. “Who is a people like you who have been saved by the Lord?” That is, he did not say that he was happy because he had a lot of money or power.

Moses gave God the reason for the happiness of the people of Israel, the people of God. They are happy because God loves the people of Israel. And we are happy because God is protecting and helping the people of Israel. They are also happy because God is still blessing the Israelites.

Ladies and gentlemen, God's children feel happiness only when they live with God's love, God's protection, and God's blessing. Therefore, the philosopher Karl Hilti said, “The greatest happiness in life is to be close to God.” Do you want to increase your happiness index as much as possible in this foreign land? Then draw close to God. Get the happiness of salvation that God gives you through Jesus Christ. And I bless you in the name of the Lord that today's text, "You are a happy man," comes to you and all of us.
