Title: What Is Your Life?
This is the content of the notes of the great Russian writer Tolstoy.
A passerby was pursued by a wild beast, grabbed a pine cone off the cliff, and looked down to see a large snake fluttering its tongue. Also on the tree were white and black mice, shooting at the branches they were holding. A wild beast above, a snake below, and a white and black mouse symbolizing day and night on the stem alternately shorten his life.
The Lord asked us, "What is your life?" through the Apostle James. Goethe said, 'Life is like a voyage', Bernard Shaw said, 'Life is suffering', and Shakespeare in England said, 'A man's life is but a shimmering shadow'.
"What is your life?"
What is our life?
First, we are dying from birth. Consumables such as disposable shampoo or razor blades. We are walking towards death as soon as we are born. Growing up to die, getting old to die, and fighting to die.
In an office, there is an inscription that reads:
A man's life is like a train.
In their 20s, they stop at every station, and in their 30s, they stop only at city stops.
In their 40s, they run non-stop, and in their 50s, they stop at non-stop stations.
In your 60s, you are standing on a non-railway. without moving.
And a woman's life is like the world.
In your twenties, like Africa, it's unexplored, and in your thirties, it's a little mysterious like India.
In their forties, they are as sophisticated as America, and in their fifties they are as devastating as Europe.
In the sixties, it is as desolate as Siberia. No one wants to go there.
The Talmud divides a person's life into seven stages as follows.
One year old king. all stand up
Two year old pig. run in the mud
ten year old goat. It is playful and runs wildly.
an eighteen-year-old horse. try to show off your power
Donkey after marriage. Home is a burden and tumbling.
Middle-aged dogs. He wanders around asking for help from several people.
The old man is a monkey. Childlike and no one cares.
There is a saying in the ancestors of ancient times, "I blocked it with a wrinkle rod and struck it with thorns, but gray hair was the first thing I knew and came by a shortcut." Kim Su-jang, a poet in the time of King Yeongjo, was white, but his heart was blue. “Flowers greet me flawlessly when they see me, but what is the cause of the tears in the eyes?” Wooam Song Si-yeol said, “Cheongsando is absolutely perfect, so is Noksu, and mountains. He lamented the aging of a person by saying, “I will naturally grow old naturally, and among them, the body that has grown up naturally will grow old.” And among the founders of unknown authors, it is “a silent clean-up, a wombless flow, a priceless blue wind, a beautiful moon without an owner.” So, among these, a body without disease will grow old without discernment.” He lamented his age, which was passing away in his short life.
Second, our lives are vain. that is false. One of the Roman emperors entered the newly built palace and died soon after coming out. This is the so-called sudden death. It is also said that Roman Pope Adrian died of suffocation after a fly caught his throat. A Roman consul is said to have stumbled on the porch of his house and fell ill and died.
To say that our life is fleeting like the life of a fly drowning in a dish, how futile it is.
Say it's life. life, what is life? A breath in the throat is proof that you are alive, and if it is cut off, you are dead.
Children are good at yawning, and adults are good at sighing. In other words, young children struggle because of lack of time, but adults, as if a day passes by ten minutes, sigh and look back and regret it.
Job said about our life, "My days are faster than a body part" and "like the grass of the morning," Isaiah said, "like a shadow," He said, "It's like smoke," He said, "It's like foam." He said it was like 'a passerby who goes to sleep overnight'. The ephemeral is our life.
Third, we live our lives without knowing when we will die tomorrow. As if a flying bird would drop it, we see a lot around us that even the power that was commanded quickly turns into a corpse. We do not know when we will die or how we will die. All of us who worship together here will surely die within the next 100 years. Even the heroic hogul, who wields power and authority, has no ingenuity to resist his own death. We live without knowing how tomorrow will unfold before us.
Fourth, the Lord has given us a heart to long for eternity. People believe that there is another world after death. That is why they are called Paradise, Hell, or Purgatory.
In our Christianity, we clearly refer to Heaven and Hell. The souls of those who believed in Jesus and lived an inspired life of faith are said to be eternal life and happiness in heaven, and those who do evil things are ultimately punished by hell. We need to know that our life is a spiritual being who longs for eternity.
Fifth, we are creatures created in the image of God. It is said that on the last day of the creation of all things, He created human beings and created them in the image of God. And when there was evening and there was morning, God saw that it was good. We are the image of God. Therefore, we cannot sin with our bodies, we cannot damage them, and we cannot fall into corruption.
Finally, sixth, we are people who should live by doing good works. The text is saying.
“Therefore, if a man knows how to do good and does not do it, it is sin.”
If you know how to do good and do not do it, then it is a sin. You are not righteous only because you do not do evil. We must live our lives keeping in mind that not doing good deeds is a sin.
"What is your life?"
When you are a teenager, it is like walking, in your twenties it is like riding a bus, in your thirties it is like riding a train, in your forties it is like riding a plane, and in your sixties and seventies it is like riding a satellite. There will be no one who looked into the mirror and did not lament when he saw his aging.
It is good to find ancestors and cemetery on the occasion of Chuseok, but let's think about what the Lord did during the holiday. The Lord went to the temple to worship.
It is better to worship Almighty God in spirit and truth than to go to the grave of the dead and make a sacrifice, and to enrich the soul with the word of God than to have a boat in front of sea and seafood.
Now, I look back and think that the right way to live is to please God and to accumulate good deeds. There is no use in sighing and regretting. If you realize that, no matter how much longer you live, I hope you are determined today to live the rest of your life to the fullest and die for the Lord. On the 60th birthday, there is a person knocking on the door of theology, and a person in a hospital bed reads the Bible anew and shed tears of repentance and prays a prayer of repentance to God.
We are all workers in the vineyard. Some people came in and worked since seven in the morning, while others came in after ten or after lunch. However, some came in an hour before the last closing. Let's live a life of faith with the thought that if we are grateful just for giving us work and if we work hard, God will treat that hour equal to the wages of each person who works every day.
I pray that you will not look back on the mistakes of the past that you have made in vain, and do not only regret the past mistakes, but turn regret into repentance, repentance with determination, and furthermore, I pray that you will become blessed saints praised by God by diligently serving faithfully for the remaining one hour before the Lord. . Amen. (1991.9.22)
