Sermons for Preaching

Title: What Jesus Did

When we judge people, we remember them and judge them according to what they are doing. It means that you judge a person by what he does. But the problem is that we don't know the person exactly because we don't know exactly what the person is doing.

The image of the father reflected in the eyes of a young child is distorted as if he only thought of him as a ‘money earner’.

Likewise, if you don't know exactly what Jesus did about His work, a distorted phenomenon about Jesus will appear. So they misunderstand the Bible and Jesus. What did God do in the Old Testament? In other words, God reveals His attributes through His works. For example, the incident of the Israelites crossing the Red Sea was God's work. It is a story that shows the omnipotence of God through such works of God. Therefore, it is very important to correctly understand God to check exactly what God has done in the Bible.

Today, we are going to examine what kind of person Jesus is by checking what Jesus did through the text. We do not know this kind of question of “what kind of person Jesus is”, and we must not think that “it is enough if we are zealous”.

Before we can think about how we lived, what we did, and what we did to God, the first thing we need to know is that we need to properly know Jesus, who made our faith possible. You must also believe rightly. When you have this right faith, you can do the right service. It is not the service itself that matters, but the spirit of the service. There will be services that boast of themselves, and there will be services that boast of God.

By examining what Jesus did through the text of the text, we are going to examine the Lordship of Jesus and the Sonship of God. So let's see how we should live on that belief.

1. Background of the text

First, we need to know from what perspective the Bible writer Matthew is writing the Gospel of Matthew about what Jesus is doing. Of course, a Bible writer named Matthew did not write this Bible from his own human point of view. God worked powerfully through Matthew so that it could be recorded.

It is the fact that this Bible was written because He worked faithfully to the original intention of the Bible. That is why the Bible is not just a book, but a book that records the Word of God and is called the Word of God. The Bible is the expression of the heart of God. God's love is expressed. That love is being shown as salvation. That salvation is being realized concretely because of Jesus. Jesus came into this world for this purpose.

However, many people, especially Jews, did not understand Jesus as the Son of God. What kind of Jesus they wanted to be, they wanted to be a Superman who satisfies their hunger and liberates them from the suffering that was oppressed by Rome. But Jesus rejected it. So Matthew is right now, especially with the Jews as their primary readers, to correct their wrong views. Quoting the words of the Old Testament prophecy, which the Jews are well aware of, they testify that this Jesus, who came as prophesied, is our true savior and the Son of God.

Dear brothers and sisters, we must listen to the cry of these words given through this Matthew. I need to know how I am now misunderstanding faith. If you misunderstand your faith, your life itself can only be hypocrisy. It can only be arrogance. They misunderstand what God really wanted.

If you do that, you will only go in the direction God does not want you to go. But the problem is that they insist on saying that the way is the way God wants them to be. It's really scary. I go to church with such pride. What you believe in while attending church is important, but if you are arrogant because you attended church and held an office, it is not okay. If you look at the words of such people, you will be rejected by God.

This is really scary. Do not regret later and pay attention to the words spoken through today's text. Please do not complain that there is no grace because there are no examples or testimonies, but truly enjoy the life of faith that God wants by confirming what the Bible says about grace. Such people are the blessed people.

2. It is the ministry of teaching.

In verse 35, the first half of today's text, it says, "Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues." The teaching work of Jesus is an important work of Jesus. Jesus taught and the people were taught. These two relationships are very important. He was a human being who had no choice but to be taught. Jesus had the power to teach.

At this time today, we must confess and acknowledge that we are human beings who have no choice but to receive the teachings of Jesus through the Bible. As Jesus teaches to many people, he is testifying that he is the Messiah as a teacher.

In Matthew 26:18, Jesus said, “Go to anyone in the city and say, ‘Teacher says, My time is near, and I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.

Matthew 23:8 says, “But do not be called rabbis, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers.”

Our true teacher is Jesus. The purpose of the teacher's teaching is to keep them. Jesus, the teacher, says:

Matthew 28:20 says, “Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.” We must keep the teachings of the Bible. If you brag about what you learned without keeping it, God will discipline you. You must keep it as it is. The signs of the last days do not follow the teachings. The Bible says

2 Timothy 3:14 says, “But abide in the things you have learned and have been convinced of.”

3. He preached the gospel of the kingdom.

In the middle of verse 35, he says, “Preaching the gospel of the kingdom.” The word “gospel of the kingdom” is “the gospel of the kingdom of God.” Matthew does not say “the gospel of the kingdom of God” but “the gospel of the kingdom”.

To the Jews, using the name of God in vain was a sin of blasphemy. So, considering the point of contact with the Jews, Matthew replaces the word “God” with “heaven” and calls it. When they think of heaven, they think of God. Matthew says that Jesus preached the gospel of the kingdom of God.

We also receive some wisdom here. Even when witnessing the gospel, it is good to bear witness to the point of contact with people who do not believe in Jesus. We must gather our wisdom so that we can draw attention to other stories and eventually focus on the Gospel. The heart of the gospel of the kingdom of God of Jesus is that he proclaims himself as the “Lord of Salvation.”

Matthew 4:17 says, “From that time on, Jesus began to preach, saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

The kingdom of God has come through you, so repent and believe in Jesus as the Lord of salvation. We must repent. There may be some who go to church and do not repent. They say they believe in God, but they do not believe in God's power. Because we do not believe, we cannot feel the experience of the presence of the Lord. They sin because they do not feel the experience of the presence of walking with the Lord.

You also need to know that you are not the kind of holy person who does not need to repent. Repentance does not mean “repent” only in words. is to turn around. If you cheat, you have to pay it back. That is repentance. If you repent after committing a sin, not committing a sin again is a life of repentance. We must show the fruits of repentance. What are the fruits of your repentance?

Jesus says in Matthew 7:20-21:

“Therefore, you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of my Father who is in heaven.”

Those who repent with an upright heart will act according to God's will as the fruit of repentance or faith. Such a person will enter heaven. We need to know how our beliefs are connected with our actions, and how we are judged by our actions as an expression of our faith. At this time, the act itself is not a problem, but because such an act is a result of unbelief, it is judged according to the act.

4. Healed all diseases (Ministry of Healing)

The second half of verse 35 says, “He healed every sickness and every weakness.” He is said to have healed “every sickness” and “every weakness.” This is the power of the Messiah. This is the passage that shows that you are the Son of God. Regarding the healing of all these diseases and infirmities, Matthew says in Matthew 8:16-17:

“As it was evening, people brought many demon-possessed people to Jesus, and Jesus cast out demons with his word and healed all the sick, so that what was said through the prophet Isaiah, He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. ” he says.

What is the reason for the cure? It is said that the reason was to fulfill the prophecy concerning the Messiah of the Old Testament prophet Isaiah. It is said that Jesus performed such a miracle in order to testify of the Messiah as the savior who takes our weaknesses and saves us. That's right. Only Jesus can help us in our weakness. He has the power to heal us. You have to depend on him. Even if everyone else has abandoned me, He does not forsake us.

2 Timothy 4:16-17 “When I first made my excuses, no one was with me, and all of them have forsaken me, but I do not want to blame them. The Lord stood by me and strengthened me so that the word of evangelism might be fully preached through me, so that the Gentiles might hear it. for I have delivered it from the lion’s mouth.” Amen

Paul said that he had left his side in the last years of his life. But Paul did not blame them for leaving. But I believed that the Lord was with Paul. That's right. The Lord is always with us. You are always with us. He has experienced and felt our weakness and is well aware of our circumstances. You will have to depend on him and serve him.

What Jesus did when he came to this earth was to come to this earth for our salvation as the Son of God. Through teaching, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing diseases, He made us know and believe that He is the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament. He is undoubtedly the Son of God.
