Title: What Jesus Did After Resurrection

Contents

Luke 24:36-53 What Jesus did after the resurrection

Today's text is one of the Gospel records that tell the story of what Jesus did when He appeared to His disciples after He died on the cross and rose again on the third day. What did Jesus do after his resurrection before he left his disciples and went to the Father? In the testimony of the Gospels, we can see three main things he did to his disciples.

1. You prayed for peace.

Whenever the resurrected Jesus appeared to his disciples, the first thing he did was to say, “Peace be with you.” Verse 36 says, “Jesus himself stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” At dawn, when the first Sabbath after Jesus died, he met the women who were the first to visit to see the tomb of Jesus, and Jesus said, “Are you in peace?” (Matthew 28:1, 8-9).

Also, the Lord who appeared to the disciples when Thomas was absent, appeared to them again when Thomas was with them, and said, “Peace be with you.” This is not just a greeting. This is like a declaration of liberation and salvation that instantly washes away the despair, doubt, anxiety, sorrow, generosity, guilt, and shame that were weighing on the disciples after the death of Jesus.

When Jesus who believed so much died on the cross, the disciples' hearts were confused. Anxiety and fear about the future approached. The disciples could not shake off their human anxiety no matter what. Moreover, to possess peace was not something that human will would do. What the disciples needed above all else was peace. At this time, Jesus appeared to the disciples and said, “Peace be with you.” Hallelujah!

Our Jesus has come as the Prince of Peace. where Jesus is

There is peace. The risen Jesus speaks to us today as well. “Peace be with you.” “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).

2. He testified of his resurrection.

The resurrection of Jesus is something that Jesus foretold many times already. Nevertheless, when the Lord was resurrected, the disciples did not immediately believe it. They did not believe what others said that they had met the resurrected Lord first, and while seeing the Lord in front of them, the disciples doubted that a ghost had appeared.

In order to make them believe, the Lord said, “Touch me. Look at my hands and feet.” But when the disciples did not believe, he said, “Is there nothing to eat?” He even showed him eating a piece of grilled fish. It was to make them believe that it is the Lord who rose again in a real body.

Not only that, but Jesus opened the Bible so that he could understand everything that was written about him, that he had to suffer and die and rise again the third day. Thomas, who was not present when Jesus first appeared to the disciples, said to him, “We have seen the Lord,” but Thomas says. “Unless I see the marks of the nails in his hands, and put my finger into them, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

Then, eight days later, while the disciples, including Thomas, were in the house, Jesus came back among them and spoke to Thomas. “Put your finger here and see my hands, and reach out your hand and put it in my side. So do not become unbelievers, but become believers” (John 20:24-27).

Everyone, why is Jesus trying so hard to make us believe in the resurrection?

Because it is so important to believe in the resurrection. Because the resurrection of Jesus was the confirmation that Jesus was the Son of God. Because the resurrection was to prove that everything he had taught his disciples while he was alive was not in vain. Because the resurrection was to prove that he was the way, the truth, and the life. Because the resurrection was the way to prove that He was the true Messiah and that His cross was the true power of salvation. This is because the resurrection was not a defeat, but a victory, and the cross was a work to prove that salvation was not a failure but the fulfillment of salvation.

Ladies and gentlemen, only those who truly believe in the resurrection of Jesus can believe in their own resurrection in the future. If Jesus didn't have a resurrection, Jesus and all of us are losers and losers. If Jesus had not been resurrected, we would be the most pitiful people in the world. If Jesus does not have a resurrection, Jesus and we are deceivers and liars. give us

The foundation of faith in God, hope, and love is the resurrection. Because the resurrection is so important, Jesus testified of the resurrection himself.

3. He gave the mission of evangelism.

In today's text, Jesus said to his disciples, "You are witnesses of all these things" (verse 48). And he instructed him not to leave the city of Jerusalem, but to stay and pray, because he will send the Holy Spirit so that he can fulfill his mission as a witness. And in the beginning of Acts, the latter part of Luke's Gospel, these important words are connected. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

Also, the Gospel of Matthew more clearly records the mission that Jesus gave to his disciples. “Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (28:19). In other words, faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ is accompanied by the mission of a witness to preach it.

Ladies and gentlemen, we should note that the resurrected Jesus did not show any interest in anything other than the first to pray for peace, the second to make them believe in His resurrection, and the third to give the mission of evangelism. How did Jesus suffer and what death did he die? It was suffering and death caused by the conspiracy of the Jewish leadership, including the high priests, false accusations and false witnesses, the betrayal of the crowd who were bought out or swindled, and the betrayal of the disciples.

From a human point of view, it could be quivering and burning with revenge. If he wanted to, he could appear before all those who delivered him to the crucifixion, ridicule their injustice and cowardice, spit taunts and curses, and declare a judgment of righteousness. Just as he appeared suddenly to his disciples and then suddenly disappeared, so he appeared to them and made them tremble in fear. He would appear to their bed every night and then disappear, tormenting them with extreme anxiety and anguish that could not sleep.

But we find no resentment, hatred, or revenge against them in the risen Lord. He said to his disciples, “How could you have abandoned me like that?” You didn't ask. He said to Peter, “Is it just as you said you will deny me three times? So, how do you feel after coming back alive like this?” He did not even sarcastic.

According to verses 50-51 of today's text, Jesus ascended to heaven and went to the Father, raising his hands to the disciples and blessing them. Then, according to verses 52-53, the disciples worshiped Jesus and returned with great joy, always praising God in the temple. In this way, along with his resurrection, Jesus not only gave his disciples peace, faith, and missions, but also blessings, and gave them worship, joy, and praise. In this way, the resurrection of Jesus is the source of peace, faith, mission, blessing, worship, joy, and praise for all of us.
