Title: When Disaster Comes / Job 6:1-13
Content Job 6:1-13
when disaster comes
I want Job to weigh his suffering on the scales (2). And it is said to be heavier than the sand of the sea (3). As the sand of the sea is countless and uncountable, he says that his suffering is too heavy to bear.
Humans look back on themselves when they experience great suffering. Pain is difficult to understand unless you have experienced it (verses 1-3).
What should we do when pain comes over us?
##### 1. You must admit that you are frivolous
No matter how good a person is, he cannot live without committing faults and sins. Therefore, boasting that you are innocent is foolish. Before God, rather than claiming one's innocence, one must first look at one's faults and repent.
--We know that Esau could easily relinquish his greater and more important firstborn's blessing because of hunger. Satan sneaks in when humans are weak and causes them to sin. The Israelites complained to God on their way from Egypt to Canaan. It was also a time when they were tired and exhausted.
Satan plots against God with his mouth. Job, too, blames God for the suffering he is facing and complains about it. Job admitted wrongdoing for his actions.
On the other hand, King Saul was too quick to make excuses rather than to admit his mistake, so he died miserably on Mount Gilboa.
Jezebel and Ahab met a horrific death in which the blood that had flowed from their corpses was thirsty. It is not easy to coolly admit one's mistakes. However, the humble attitude to look back at one's own faults before blaming God in the midst of any trials is a human duty that should never be overlooked.
We hope it will be a good opportunity to look back on you.
##### 2. We must acknowledge that God is in charge of life and death.
Job knew and acknowledged that God had permitted the suffering that had come upon him. The reason Job praised, "The LORD gave, and the LORD took away; blessed be the name of the LORD" (1:21) because he believed in the absolute sovereignty of the LORD. This is Job's faithful attitude.
It is an expression of a spiritually mature personality to praise the person who caused them pain rather than harbor resentment.
Even in the midst of great suffering, Job had hope because he was convinced that God would give him what he asked for.(13) This religious attitude led him to a victorious life. Only those who do not lose hope in God in the midst of suffering can win. I hope you will learn a lesson from Job, who does not lose faith and hope in the midst of great tribulation.
--The attitude of complaining to kill the gourd vine for getting rid of it is also the naked face of us humans. Even if it falls into the furnace and becomes ashes, the faith of keeping our faith is a decision that is required of us as well.
When suffering comes, believers who believe that God is in charge of the suffering and keep their faith will show this ability.
Please acknowledge the providence of God.
##### 3. You must have an attitude of accepting death sweetly
Anyone who faces death loses his/her reason. However, in verse 10 of the text, Job says, 'Rejoice in heartless suffering'. Of course, these words are resigned lamentations spit out in extreme pain, but they also come from the belief that God will take responsibility for even his own death.
-- has made a confident confession, 'I have fought the good fight and kept my faith' (2 Timothy 4:7). Those who have endured difficult trials and temptations and have not lost their Christian attitude will not be so afraid to die.
--I was not afraid of this death because I saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. I hope that we can overcome even extreme destruction such as death, believing that the Lord, who has destroyed the powers of sin, death, and Satan, is still standing by our side.
--Human adaptability to weather conditions is beyond our imagination. People live in villages even in the tropics, where temperatures exceed 50 degrees Celsius, and large villages are located in Siberia, where the temperature is minus 65 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, people living in the Andes or Himalayas, which are at an altitude of 4000 meters, have only 75% of the flatland air, and the body temperature drops, lack of oxygen, and blood vessels and breathing disorders from low air pressure. I am living well. As such, the range of weather conditions that humans can adapt to is quite wide.
However, the physical strength of modern people is gradually declining due to lack of exercise and changes in the environment. It is important to increase the ability to adapt to nature through physical and mental training.
Job's ailing body, the unbearable humiliation that even his friends criticize, and everyone wants to give up on everything and do whatever they say or do in this state. However, Job tries not to fall into sin while trying to grasp the essence of the situation accurately. And he shows an attitude of humbly accepting the circumstances given to him.
--When suffering comes, a religious person asks, 'Why did this happen?' Analyze the cause.
When it comes to unhappiness that can come to everyone in our lifetime, we need to use it as an opportunity to look deep inside ourselves rather than just get frustrated or give up.
This resolute attitude is a form of strengthening one's faith and physical strength. Such saints will not be discouraged and live a victorious life in any circumstance.
I bless you in the name of the Lord for such a life.
