Hymn: 80. of the names in heaven
Date: December 16, 2011 (Fri) 5 am
Venue: Jeonju Yebut Church Small Worship Room
An incident occurred when a mixed race man blasphemed the name of God while quarreling with an Israelite. People imprisoned him and waited for God's will. What kind of punishment does God want in this case?
1. When you blaspheme the name of God
Leviticus 24 records the story of a man born to an Israeli mother and an Egyptian father who blasphemed the name of the Lord while fighting an Israelite. God's judgment in this case was death. Through this incident, God was warning His people that such a thing would never happen again. No one should blaspheme the name of God. However, we also do not implicitly acknowledge God, and we often put ourselves ahead of God. It is also blasphemy for God's people to not acknowledge God. You must have God as your master in everything and make it the highest priority in your life.
2. When you harm people
God speaks of the principle when it comes to harming others. This is the famous ‘Eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth’. It's about repaying you for the damage you've done. Anyone who kills a person must be put to death, and whoever kills an animal must be compensated with an animal. If you injure a neighbor, you must suffer the same injury. The reason God has enacted this law is that any sin must be compensated appropriately, and the compensation must be equal to the harm caused to the other person. If the punishment is weaker than the one who committed the crime, the sin will not cease and will result in another revenge. This 'Dongtae Revenge Method' is also a device to stop revenge that can be repeated and to take revenge that is greater than the damage suffered. If you pay the price harshly, you will not repeat the sin.
3. No exceptions and no discrimination
In the text, those who sin are not subject to summary judgment. After waiting for God's will for him, they stoned him to remove evil from Israel. God's laws apply equally to aliens and natives. Being an Israeli does not take into account the norm. Nor is it aggravating punishment for being a foreigner. Because God is just and doesn't take people for their outward appearance. God's law is just. God Himself declared the strictness and fairness of this law. Therefore, we must not adapt God's Word to our circumstances and circumstances. It is the right attitude of a believer to completely bow down and obey the word of God.
If you break God's law, you will be punished accordingly. When we sin against God or people, God doesn't want us to go overboard. Therefore, we must hate sin, and when we commit a sin, we must pay the price thoroughly so that we do not go back to sin again.
