Sermons for Preaching

Title: Where the Light Stays

The theme of Lent is sin. From the Hebrew prophets to John the Baptist, to Augustine and Dante, to Karl Barth and Reinhold Niebuhr, sin has always been central to the human condition. However, the understanding and emphasis on sin has changed over the past few decades. He has been explaining the cause of sin as a cause other than his own responsibility or a problem in the social structure. For example, in the case of a murderer, it was because of his mental instability, and in the case of a drug addict, there was a problem in his growth. Whereas the church of the past emphasized repentance of sin or responsibility for sin, today's church emphasizes God's generosity, accepting all things, accepting all things, and blessing all people.

In this situation, we will now have to reconsider our sin. The Greek word for sin is hamartia, which means an arrow that misses its target. It's off target. Since we were born into this world, we already have a life goal given to us by God, and when we deviate from it, we become a sin. The sin expressed by the Chinese characters symbolizes two birds trying to fly with their backs to each other under the net. It can be said that this does not only mean that we have lost our target, but that we cannot help and cooperate with each other in a crisis situation, but we stand with our backs to each other and insist on our own path. A sin is never like a technical foul. As Benedict put it, sin means that we turn away from God, turn our backs on our neighbors, and give up the real life. Goals and limits are broken. We are well aware of the tragic consequences of breaking down the absolute limit of “just do it anyway” in our words, and anyone can do anything. Why?

“I made up my mind, God.

I made up my mind.

will sing I will sing on the harp.

My heart, open your eyes Vipa, lyre, open your eyes

This cry to open your eyes is not just for seeing. It is to break through the darkness of this world and create a world of light. So, the poet concludes with the goal of opening his eyes like this.

"I will shake the dawn to wake you up."

That's right. We must wake up the dawn and drive out the darkness. And we must create a new world of light. Isaiah speaks of this world: His goal is to create a world in which "the least of the least prosper and the most insignificant become a mighty nation." To do this, God must remove the obstacles so that the people can come. Just as Jesus removed the obstacle that covered the eyes of the blind, we must break the tragic phenomenon that is making this history of darkness. We are still sinners as long as there are blind people in this world who are still living in darkness and without hope or life. So, in this Lent, we should look back on our own responsibilities with the darkness of this world, and follow Jesus Christ who came as the light to illuminate the world of light. This is the way to reveal the glory of God. We must also have the courage, faith, and wisdom of those who took the man who was born blind to the Pharisees, and of those who followed Jesus.
