Title: Where there is water, the water of life

Where there is water of life

Text: Psalm 42:1 - 5 - Hymn 391

A glass of cold mineral water taken out of the refrigerator is especially refreshing in the morning. How young and fresh is the bottled water freshly received from the spring water source in the morning, compared to the old tap water, which was drawn from a distant water source, treated at the Waterworks Bureau, and spent a lot of time coming home through the water pipe!

We drink about 30,000 liters of water in our lifetime. The total length of arteries and veins in the human body is 100,000 km, and most of the blood flowing through them (70-80%) is also occupied by water. Even if we lose only 2% of the water we have in our body, we feel very thirsty, and if we suddenly lose about 7%, blood circulation stops and we die. Without water, neither animals nor plants can live. Water is the lifeblood of all breathing things. Jesus is the living water of the soul. The living water you must drink and drink throughout your life is Jesus. We must draw water from the living water of Jesus throughout our lives.

It is the modern man who has no choice but to be thirsty and thirsty. They are slaves to science, science, and reason. We are living a life without Jesus as we have been taught and taught, hanging on the things that cannot truly fill us. If we do not meet Jesus on this earth, the end is just an empty tomb. Let those who are thirsty come to Jesus.

“Come, all you who thirst, come to the waters, and he who has no money, come, buy and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price” (Isaiah 55:1).

This is an anecdote of Dr. Kelly, who had a devout faith as a surgeon and professor at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. It is said that he always wore an undying rose in his suit. It was as fresh as a freshly picked rose whenever I saw it.

So one student asked. “Teacher, flowers never wither whenever I see them. Do you have any secrets?”

He smiled and said that the secret was no big deal and turned the front of his suit over. There was a small water bottle with flowers in its inner pocket. That's why the flowers always looked fresh. And Dr. Kelly said:

“If we are to go into this world and become Christians who are always fresh, beautiful, and always fragrant, the roots of our lives must be contained in the living water of Christ like this rose.”

The Bible says that when a Christian is attached to Jesus Christ, just as a branch is attached to a vine, it will naturally become fresh, flower, and bear fruit.

If our hearts are always contained in the words of Jesus Christ, the water of life, His thoughts, and His love, the fragrance of Christ will appear in our homes and communities (John 4:14, Revelation 21:6, Revelation 22:1, 17)

“He will be like a tree planted by the waters, which stretches out its roots by the riverbank, and does not fear when the heat comes; its leaves are green, and there is no worry in a year of drought, and it does not cease to bear fruit” (Jeremiah 17:8)

East Africa is one of the driest regions on Earth. So, the name of the city of Nairobi in this area is very meaningful. Its name comes from the Maasai language meaning 'cold water' and literally means 'where there is water'.

Throughout history, water is a source of life and strategically important. Whether you live in arid or tropical rainforests, water is an absolute necessity, beyond negotiation. Knowing where the water is in arid and barren areas can mean the difference between life and death.

There are elements in our spiritual life that are indisputable and essential. That is why Jesus declared to the woman that only he could give living water when he met a spiritually thirsty woman at the well. Jesus said to the woman, "Whoever drinks the water I will give him will never thirst. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water springing up to eternal life" (John 4:14).

Like the thirsty deer in Psalm 42:1-2, our soul thirsts for God and thirsts for Him (Psalm 63:1). We desperately need nourishment that can only come through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the source of living water, from which our hearts find life.

“Whoever believes in me, as the scripture says, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)

* Prayer: Jesus, the source of living water, whoever believes in Jesus has promised that rivers of living water will overflow just like the name in the Bible. I confess that He is the Holy Spirit. May the living water of Jesus Christ, the living water bursting from the rock, fill the lives of our saints. Give those who are thirsty to drink your living water. Rivers of living waters Rivers of free life Flow out of my Saviour, let those rivers now flow through me. May we live holy in You so that our homes and churches may always overflow with the divine fragrance and the water of life. We pray in the name of Jesus, who is our living water. Amen
