Lent with a special meaning
This is the first week of Lent. It is a time to spend reverently while remembering Jesus' suffering, death on the cross, and resurrection. Just like a mother who got burns all over her body after running into the fire to save the baby remaining in the house after belatedly finding out that there was a fire in her house, the Son of God Himself took a human body to save us from the eternal punishment of hell. He came to this earth, took up the cross, and died. He paid the penalty for our sins. It is a period of remembrance of the great crucifixion.
For true Christians, this feast should come with a special meaning. We are the ones who can see the spiritual world that the world cannot see. These are those who hear the voice of God that the world cannot hear, taste the spiritual grace that they cannot taste, and enjoy the joy of heaven on this earth. We live on this earth, but our life direction, purpose, and reason are different. What does the cross of Jesus mean to you?
Portrait of the Messiah who will come to this earth
Today's text Isaiah 53 prophesies in detail about the Messiah who will come to this earth. Jesus came to this earth, but people will not believe it (verse 1), and he will be like a tender shoot, like a root out of dry ground, and will not have a beautiful appearance or appearance in the eyes of a human being (verse 2), and will be despised. It is said that he was a person who was rejected by people, suffered much hardship, and was acquainted with suffering (verse 3). Also, people misunderstood his suffering and crucifixion that he was punished, beaten by God, and suffered. (Verse 4)
There are two types of sacrificial laws in the Old Testament times. First, it is a burnt offering in which an unblemished sheep, goat, or cow is brought to the temple as a sacrifice, placed on its head, and the guilt is imputed. The death of an animal brought as a sacrifice means that the sins of those who sinned are forgiven. Next, once a year on the Great Day of Atonement, they lay their hands on the head of the goat and drive it out of the city gate. Then, the sacrifice goes around outside the city gate and either starves to death or is killed by a ferocious beast, and thus all sins are forgiven.
In this way, Jesus actually became a burnt offering, his flesh was torn and blood was shed, and he was driven out of the city gate and crucified on a cross on the hill of Golgotha, where he was brutally killed. In this way, all the sacrifices in the Old Testament reveal the coming Jesus Christ.
Messiah's Suffering and Why
The prophet Isaiah proclaims the content and meaning of the suffering that Jesus, who will come as the Messiah, will suffer in the text as follows.
He was pierced because of our transgressions. (Verse 5) Jesus wore a crown of thorns on his head, was nailed to his hands and feet, and was nailed to his side in order to forgive the transgressions that we had made without knowing or were weak. was pierced by a spear. Because of this, He took on all the curses, pain and suffering caused by our sins and transgressions.
He was bruised for our iniquities (v. 5). His whole body was bruised because of our intentional and willful iniquities, even though we knew we were sinful. Although we were sinners who were self-centered and rebellious against God, His wounds opened the way for our sins to be forgiven if we only repent and return.
He was disciplined to give us peace (verse 5). Jesus came to bring peace to this earth. After Jesus was crucified, Jesus appeared to the disciples who were trembling in fear and said, “I give you peace.” I bless all of you today that this kind of peace is poured out.
He was scourged for our healing. (Verse 5) Because of Adam and Eve's transgression, the earth was cursed and brought forth thorns and thistles. The thorns and thistles pierced him, and he was whipped all over to heal our wounded and sick bodies. If we firmly believe in this fact and command and pray in the name of Jesus, the disease will go away and we will experience a wonderful miracle of healing.
♬ Jesus suffered the sins of the world when he took up the cross for me
Jesus, Jesus, forgive me a sinner, for I shed precious blood for my sins
Re-challenge the inevitable question
At this time, I ask the saints one more time. Who was it that crucified Jesus? Don't shy away from answering this question. I ask you to give your life a serious thought and answer.
