Old Testament

Why do the nations rage, and the nations plot vain things?

The princes of the earth go forth, and the rulers conspire against the LORD and his anointed,

Let us cut off their ties and put off their bonds.

He who is in heaven laughs; the Lord will laugh at them.

Then he became angry and became angry and astonished them, saying,

I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain.

I give the command of the LORD, and the LORD said to me, "You are my son; today I have begotten you.

Ask me, and I will give the nations as your inheritance, and your possessions shall extend to the ends of the earth.

Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt break them like earthen vessels.

So then, princes, gain wisdom; you judges of the earth, receive instruction.

Serve the LORD with reverence, and rejoice with trembling.

Kiss his son, or his wrath will cause you to perish on the way, for his wrath is swift; blessed are all those who take refuge in the LORD.

new testament

As Jesus and his disciples were going out to the villages of Caesarea in Philippi, they asked his disciples on the way, saying, “Who do people say I am?

The disciples said to her, "It is John the Baptist, and others say, Elijah, and others, one of the prophets."

He asked again, "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ."

Then he warned him not to tell anyone about his affairs.

He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised on the third day.

While he had spoken these words openly, Peter seized Jesus and protested.

When Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind me, Satan, for you do not think about the things of God, but rather the things of men.”

He called the crowd and his disciples and said to them, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."

Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and the gospel will save it.

For what profit is it if a man gains the whole world and loses his life?

What will a man give in exchange for his life?

If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of the Father with the holy angels.

When Jesus asked his disciples in the region of Caesarea Philippi, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.” But after a while, when he told him that he would go up to Jerusalem and suffer afflictions, he yelled at Peter who stopped him, saying, “Go away, Satan.” Why?

There were two reasons why Jesus could not live up to the Jewish people's expectation of the Messiah. First, as seen in the fall of Solomon, the king of the empire, he knew that the history of the kingdom of David was a history tainted by decadence and oppression, like the history of all other theocratic states. Second, Jesus could not accept the Messianic thought because he knew that if he accepted the Jewish Messianic thought, it would result in the exclusion of all other nations except Israel.

Jesus foretold that he would suffer two more times after that, and each time he told them to take up the cross, to be a servant, and to be last.

By saying, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many,” he clearly showed the image of the Messiah, which is completely different from the traditional Messiah image.
