Sermons for Preaching

Title: Who is Jesus? / Mark 8:27-30

What kind of person is Jesus? / Mark 8:27-30

Key Verse: “Then he asked, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ” (verse 29).

Word: Jesus and his disciples went to the region of Caesarea Philippi near Mount Hermon. He asked his disciples, “Who do people say I am?” Whether in Jesus' day or today, this question is the most important question, the question of essence. There are three answers to Jesus' question of who do you think you are.

The first is the answer of hypocritical religious leaders who oppose and plot to kill Jesus, saying that Jesus is a heretic and agitator. Second, the answer is that Jesus is one of John the Baptist, Elijah, and the prophet. Thirdly, it is the answer, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16), the apostle Peter's solemn confession of faith.

Who is Jesus to you?

Jesus is the Son of God, who existed from the beginning (John 1:1). He was with God in the beginning and created the universe (John 1:3). He is omnipotent and transcends time and space, and there is nothing impossible (Matthew 8:5-13). He subdued demons (Mt 5:1-20), healed the paralytic (Mark 1:12), and raised the dead (Mark 5:35-43). “He who will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). He is the Lord of Immanuel, who will come into this world and be with us forever (Matthew 1:23).

Jesus was born through the same process of conception as we do. But what is different from us is that he was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:20). And he died on the cross to atone for the sins of mankind and rose from the dead on the third day (Romans 4:25). He is now at the right hand of God, interceding for us.

Anyone who believes in Jesus will be saved. The purpose of Jesus coming to this earth in human form is first to atone for our sins (Mark 10:45), secondly to give us abundant life (John 10:10), and thirdly to give us eternal life (John 10:10). John 5:24). Therefore, like Peter, we too must confess, “The Lord (Jesus) is the Christ, the Son of the living God.” So let's get eternal life and receive the power that Jesus gives us, and let's live a victorious life every day.

Modern people, you and I, live with fear. Some people have a fear of work, a fear of illness and death, a fear of adapting to a rapidly changing society, and a fear of computers. The secret to overcoming all these fears is in Jesus Christ. Believe and trust in the Almighty Lord. Then your fears and worries turn into joy and confidence.

Prayer: By believing and trusting in Jesus, we may live with the abundant life you give us and the hope of eternal life. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
