Old Testament
15. And Naomi said, Behold, your brother-in-law returns to his people and to his gods; you must also go after your brother-in-law.
16. Ruth said, "Do not compel me to leave you and not follow you and return. Wherever you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay."
You will be my people, and your God will be my God.
17. Where you die, I will die and be buried there. If I leave you except to die, the Lord will punish me and bring more.”
18. When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped talking to him.
new testament
23. I do all things for the gospel, so that I may partake of it.
24. Don't you know that in the field all runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in the same way so that you may receive the prize.
25. Everyone who competes for victory is temperate in all things, and they seek the crown of the victor that is corruptible, but we want the incorruption.
26. Therefore, I do not run as if I was aimless, and I do not fight as if I was beating the air.
27. I beat my body into subjection, lest after I have preached to others, I myself will be rejected.
sermon
The church does not give up. Even if many difficulties and persecutions come, the church does not give up one soul. Many people start doing good things, but when there is opposition and criticism, they cannot continue and stop in the middle. But the community of Christ does not abandon faith. I don't quit my mission. Why?
1. Because there is ( ). The Apostle Paul had a purpose in life. 1 Corinthians 9:26 “I do not run as if I was aimless, I do not fight as if I was striking the air” There were also Olympic Games at that time. Athletes run towards the goal. A player whose goal is not clear goes back and forth and fails to win.
2. Because there is ( ). Verse 25 “Everyone who strives for victory is temperate in all things.” A person who runs toward one goal makes a specific plan to achieve it. The Apostle Paul had a specific plan to save a soul by becoming like that soul.
3. Because there is ( ). Verse 24 “Run in the same way that you may receive your reward” We Christians are rewarded with eternal glory. The Olympic gold medal is glorious, how much more glorious the reward you will get in the eternal kingdom? Paul was afraid that he might not be saved even though he saved others.
The community of Christ is a gathering of people who do not give up their mission. The reason we do not give up on that mission is because God first saved us and gave us this goal. Not only that, but God has made us plan in a good way. Because He has promised to reward all who do this.
