Title: Why Was He Resurrected?
In today's text, Peter explains how important this is as he testifies of the cross and resurrection of Jesus. Then, what specifically caused Jesus to be resurrected?
First, Jesus was resurrected because God had a plan (verse 40). ‘God raised him up again’ These words mean that God acknowledged Jesus as the true Savior. As the true Savior of mankind, He raised Jesus to life. There was only one Jesus who died for our sins, and there is only one Jesus whom God raised from the dead. Other than Jesus, who else did God resurrect from the power of death? There is no such person in this world.
Second, Jesus was resurrected in a human body to save us (verse 41). After Jesus was resurrected, he ate with his disciples. This proves that the resurrection of Jesus is a physical resurrection. In other words, Jesus was not resurrected only in spirit, as in some false ideas, but in a completely physical body. There is no human intention or thought in it.
Third, Jesus was resurrected because he became judge of the living and the dead (v. 42). In his resurrection, Jesus became judge of the living and the dead. Indeed, when Jesus returns, all people will be resurrected and stand before Jesus to be judged. Jesus judges who will be part of the resurrection of life? It is to decide who will be part of the resurrection of judgment. Jesus will judge this role for himself.
Fourth, Jesus was resurrected because he was given the power to forgive sins by his resurrection (verse 43). We have our sins forgiven through the name of Jesus. When we believe in the risen Lord, we can be forgiven of our sins and justified. The early Christians had no choice but to testify of this Lord despite any threat. Because they directly witnessed the risen Lord.
