with wisdom and the Spirit
Acts 6:8-15
1. Let's be praiseworthy.
Stephen was a man who was raised as a deacon in the early church. Verse 3, “Brothers, choose from among you seven men of praise, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, and we have committed this work to them.” Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, was a man of praise among men. In today's world, we cannot help but feel sorry for the knowledge and flow of faith in Christ in the midst of the flood of knowledge and information. What is Stephen's message to us? Stephen was a reputable believer in a local church filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom, an early church that had just been planted, and a church that had just been revived and needed a deacon. As Matthew 25:21 says, “Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over little things; I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” Whether it's big things, worldly things, or church things, if you are just filled with the Holy Spirit and live a wise life of faith, you will receive praise from the Lord as well as praise from people.
2. Let us speak with wisdom and the Holy Spirit.
Stephen was full of grace and power, and wonders and signs arose wherever he went. So, a forum was opened with people from all over the world. When he argued with people from all over the world, Stephen was not able to bear it because he spoke with wisdom and the Holy Spirit. No matter how much data you have, it is easy to lose confidence in the ongoing debate if you do not experience it yourself. But the Holy Spirit's help led Stephen to answer confidently and wisely. In Luke 21:15, “I will give you words and wisdom that all your enemies cannot resist or refute.” To know Jesus, to say it, and to live that way.
3. Before false witnesses
As miracles and signs arose through Stephen's ministry, they tried to overcome Stephen through argumentation, but as they spoke with wisdom and the Holy Spirit, they could not stand against him at all, so people began to spread false rumors. Stephen was falsely accused of spreading blasphemy against Moses and God. Look at their efforts. When they can't win the argument, they teach, provoke, and drive high-ranking people, eventually bringing Stephen to the synod court. In the face of so many false witnesses, what plan is Stephen preparing to face? He was a very wise man. In this crisis, his face was shining like an angel. Why? Because of what follows in Chapter 7. Oh Lord, thank you so much. It was so hard because I couldn't even find all the people, but thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk to you all at once today. Wisdom and the Holy Spirit were with him. So, all the events were brought together as a message for the gospel. Even in the presence of false witnesses who were trying to kill him, he took the opportunity to preach Jesus.
