Old Testament

5. The LORD descended in the cloud and stood there with him, proclaiming the name of the LORD.

6. The LORD passed before him, and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in kindness and truth.

7. He will show mercy to a thousand generations, and will forgive iniquity and trespass and sin.

new testament

1. Jesus went to the Mount of Olives

2. When he entered the temple again in the morning, all the people were coming, and he sat down and taught them.

3. The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in fornication and set her in the middle.

4. They said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery."

5. Moses commanded in the law to stone these women, but what would you say?

6. They said this because they were testing Jesus in order to obtain a condition for accusation. Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

7. And they did not stop asking him. Then he got up and said, "He that is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at him."

8. He bent down again and wrote with his finger on the ground.

9. When they heard these words, they felt remorse in their consciences, and they went out one by one, starting as adults and young people, and only Jesus and the woman standing among them were left.

10. When Jesus got up and saw that there was no one but a woman, he said to her, "Woman, where are they who accused you? Has no one condemned you?"

11. He answered, “No, Lord.” Jesus said to him, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

Watching recent cases of sexual assault, child abuse, and murder all over the world, I feel that our society's moral corruption and the destruction of humanity are exceeding the level. How did society get to this point, and how can criminals do it? Besides, today's text is Jesus' forgiveness of sinners, but it seems that these words do not fit today's reality.

Hesitating to choose the door. Shouldn't vicious criminals be severely punished to build moral discipline? Is it reasonable to forgive and release them? Isn't Jesus' love so heartbreaking? Aren't you abusing grace? However, while studying the text, the Lord gave me an unexpected realization.

1. Pause: Jesus does not condemn sinners. The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in fornication to Jesus. The law said to stone such a woman

I said chira, but what would the teacher do? The Lord paused before them to obtain conditions for accusing Jesus, and He condemned neither the woman nor them.

2. Refresh: Jesus forgives sinners. When they urged them to ask, Jesus reminded them, "He that is without sin among you, let him first throw a stone at him." They were angry with the woman who had stained society with sin and tried to blame him, but Jesus, who forgave, roused them to see themselves.

3. Release: Jesus saves sinners. When the people who heard the word and felt remorse left the stone and went back, the Lord asked the woman. “Where are those who accused you?” “No, Lord” The Lord said to the woman, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

Legal morality is inhuman, selective, and punishment-oriented. But the morality of grace puts people first, does not regard oneself as a moral superiority, but humbly stands with sinners, does not try to condemn others, and leads to a righteous life. When we, like others, are angered and try to stone us, the Lord stops us and vents our inner man with the wind of forgiveness, and sets us and the world free. “I forgave you. i saved you I will not condemn you.” The Lord is the hope of us and of the world.
