Conversation with a Samaritan Woman (John 4:6-36)
6-"There was also Jacob's well. Jesus, weary from the journey, sat down by the well, and it was about the sixth hour." 7-"A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus asked for a drink." 8- "Because the disciples went into the town to buy food." 9 - "The Samaritan woman said to her, "You are a Jew, why do you ask a Samaritan woman for a drink?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
10-"Jesus answered and said to them, "If you had known the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water." 12 - "Are you greater than Jacob, because our father Jacob gave us this well, and he and his sons and his animals ate from it?"
13-"Jesus answered and said to them, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again." 14-"Whoever drinks the water I will give him will never thirst. The woman said to her, "Lord, give me this water so that I will not be thirsty or come here to draw water." 16 - "Go and call your husband." 17 - "The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus said, "You "You are right to say that you have no husband." 18-"You have had five husbands, but the one you have now is not your husband. You are true." 19-"The woman said, "Lord, I see you as a prophet." I worshiped, but you say that the place of worship is in Jerusalem."
21-"Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem." 22-"You worship what you do not know, and we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews."
23-"The hour is coming, and now is, when those who truly worship the Father will worship in spirit and in truth, for the Father is looking for such worshipers of Him." 24-"God is a Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. 25-"The woman said to her, "I know that the Messiah is coming, who is called Christ. When he comes, he will tell us all things." 26-"Jesus said to him, "I am he who speaks to you."
The cause of the believer's thirst
1. It comes from God's discipline for unbelief.
“Because you have not served the LORD your God with joy and gladness, even though you have had enough, in hunger, thirst, and need of all things, you will serve the enemy whom the LORD will send against you, and he will put an iron yoke on your neck. and will eventually destroy you” (Deuteronomy 28:47-48).
2. It comes from the fatigue of a long trip.
“And I toiled and toiled, many times sleepless, hungry and thirsty, many times hungry, cold and naked” (2 Corinthians 11:27).
3. It is a symbol of pain in the vagina.
“He called and said, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am troubled in this flame” (Luke 16:24).
parable of thirst
1. It is the voice of the Lord calling for a thirsty life.
“Come, you who thirst, come to the waters, and he who has no money, come, buy and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price” (Isaiah 55:1)
“On the last day of the feast, on the great day, Jesus stood up and cried, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the scripture says, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.” This was referring to the Holy Spirit, whom those who believed in him would receive. (Because Jesus had not yet been glorified, the Holy Spirit was not yet upon them)” (John 7:37-39).
2. It is the voice of the Lord teaching us through service.
“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to see me. Did they see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?” (Matthew 25:35-42)
how to quench thirst
1. You must believe in Jesus as the Christ.
“Jesus said, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst” (John 6:35).
2. We must hear the calling of the Holy Spirit.
“The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come.’ Those who hear will say, ‘Come.
