Title: Worrying about sin
2014. 7. 27 Sunday morning sermon
.
Bible: Romans 7:23-24
Title: Worrying About Sin
.
Romans 7:23-24 ‘23. I see another law in my members wrestling with the law of my heart, and holding me captive by the law of sin that is in my members.
.
The difference between a believer in Jesus and an unbeliever is whether or not they know or ignore that life is a sinner and a bad person who repeats sins. I want to reflect anew after hearing the confession of the Apostle Paul who is doing <contemplation on sin>.
.
1. Is there a conflict between a natural (flesh) human being and a new being?
.
.
The fact that human beings are sinners and the realization that they face the danger of crime in their lives cannot be known from their own conscience, and they do not intend to positively acknowledge it. Only as God judges in the Bible, we must accept and acknowledge what sin is. For example, Romans 7:7 in this chapter, “I would not have known sin except through the law; if the law had not said, ‘You shall not covet, I would not have known covetousness’ (Romans 3:20). What is a sin?
.
①John 16:9 ‘…because you do not believe in me’’ (unbelief in Jesus)
②Romans 14:23 “.. Anything that is not of faith is sin” (Life of Unbelief)
③James 4:17 ‘…if you know how to do good and do not do it, it is a sin’ (Illegal)
④ 1 John 3:4 ‘..sin is lawlessness’ (illegal), ⑤ 1 John 5:17 ‘all unrighteousness is sin…’ (unrighteousness)
In summary, any deviation from the Bible is sin (Catechism 14).
.
It's like thinking that you don't have a disease, but going to the hospital and undergoing an MRI scan to discover a disease you didn't feel could be embarrassing. Being unable to feel does not mean that there is no disease (even if the liver is 70% damaged, no subjective symptoms are felt). Does thinking positively make you sick? Also, if you have healed a mortal disease, it is normal to keep paying attention to your spiritual health even if you become a born-again saint, just as you are always careful not to recur.
.
Colossians 2:8 “Beware lest anyone take you captive by philosophy and vain deceit, according to the traditions of men and the elementary sciences of the world, not according to Christ.”
.
Paul says in Romans 7:23, “I see in my members another law fighting the law of my heart, and taking me captive by the law of sin that is in my members.” I am confessing the truth. He confessed that the existence of all regenerated saints is a conflict between a righteous life and a sinful life.
.
Galatians 5:17 “The lust of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit is against the flesh, because the two oppose each other.”
The important thing is that it is normal for any believer to have a conflict of faith and conscience to fight sin like this. If there is no sin at all or not feeling the conflict itself, it must be considered that there is a problem in the spiritual state.
.
2. Confessing that the solution to the problem is only through Jesus Christ
.
Human problems have become complex. Solutions are also studied from different angles. Would you like to solve human problems with psychology? Then the Son of God would not have been sacrificed. Jesus is the Savior who came into the world to deliver us from our sins and misery (John 14:6).
.
In the text, Paul says in Romans 7:24, “O wretched man I am! who will deliver me from this body of death?” He expresses his conscience suffering spiritually. And then, until Romans 8:2, the answer is given, which tells us that it is the way to obtain atonement through the blood of Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit fulfills this covenant to achieve true spiritual freedom (Romans 8:1-2, Gal. 5:1).
.
The works of God's promise of salvation, the blood of Jesus, and the fulfillment of the Holy Spirit occur simultaneously and are not separate. Those who focus on the gift of the Holy Spirit to make faith understandable will not be able to change the true conscience of repentance before the blood of the Lord Jesus.
.
.
It should be noted here that our members sometimes sin and have conflicts, but it is not directly related to eternal life and salvation. Philippians 1:6 “We are sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Christ Jesus.”
.
This does not mean that we should ignore morals and ethics. Those who are born of the Holy Spirit rather strive to be perfect in morals and ethics. However, it is intended to demonstrate the character of God's people, not to feel a serious danger in the matter of salvation.
.
The problem with the church life today is that it ignores the original intention of the gospel, not the environmental factors or organization, and it is unfortunate that instead of listening to the sermon with a humanistic philosophy, it is replaced by the gospel. I pray that you and I will be victorious again by looking into the covenant of the gospel again and fighting over our sinful nature and crying out to the Lord like the apostle Paul.
