Title: Worship Looking at Jesus (2)

2012.1.22 Worship looking at Jesus (2) Hebrews 12:2
Worship is looking to God.
Let us look to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.”
It is to look at Jesus by focusing on other things without being shaken.
The thing that pleases God the most is that our gaze in life is fixed.
The writer of Romans says that worship that pleases God is “a holy living sacrifice.”
We need to know what “holy” means.
First, when the word “holy” is used in the Bible, it always has the meaning of “separation.”
In the Old Testament times, when offering sacrifices, the word “without blemish” appears.
A gift that is thoroughly prepared, searched for, and offered is a gift without blemish.
It doesn't matter what kind of worship you have.
But are you giving your spare time to God?
Or are you giving yourself a set time before God?
It doesn't matter what gift you give.
But are you taking one of many substances out of your wallet?
Or are you offering a special gift to God?
Are you giving your devotion and service with your spare time and self-satisfaction?
Or is it devotion to find and set apart things that please God?
There is a scene where Abraham settles in the land of Canaan and worships.
Genesis 12:7-8 “There he built an altar … They called on the name of the Lord.”
But Abram's life was not always smooth, and he met a famine in a new land.
They are forced to descend into the fertile land of Egypt.
But there Abram is put to shame.
He was afraid that his beloved wife Sarai would be taken away, so he deceived him as his sister.
However, there is no record of Abraham worshiping at that time.
God leads the whole family to Canaan following the hand of saving Abram again.
Genesis 13:4 "The place where he first built an altar, where he called on the name of the LORD."
What is more important is what he does after he calls on the name of Jehovah and becomes a worshiper.
Genesis 13:8-9 He surrenders all his choices to his nephew Lot.
You will also see Abram's choice and life change as a worshiper.
And promises future blessings.
Genesis 13:17 Arise, go through the land in length and breadth, and I will give it to you.”
The Bible describes the land chosen by Lot, his nephew.
13:10 There was plenty of water in all the land, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.
It was like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt.”
No matter how beautiful the land is, the land of those who do not worship God will be destroyed.
Those who have experienced God's promise will live the life of a continued worshiper.
It is holding on to that promise and continuing to live the life of a worshiper.
I pray that 2012 will also be a blessed year in which you can enjoy God's grace and blessings through the life of worshipers that God is pleased with.
