Ancient societies were polytheistic societies. In Greek and Roman mythology, the gods loved, had children, hated, quarreled and fought, conquered, and fought just like people. Therefore, the names of the gods are also the gods of war, death, love, sea, sun, beauty, and so on. The Romans believed that gods intervened in their lives, and when they did something, they worshiped the god in charge. In more barbaric times, they believed and worshiped God in all things in nature. If the object was invisible, even if it was made by hand, they bowed down and served it. However, the Bible calls these things idols and works of art. (Psalm 115:4) God also told us not to make or serve idols engraved in the Ten Commandments. It is said that only the Lord is God and Lord.
What drives my life? Are your life goals and visions guiding you? Does possessiveness or pleasure drive me? Does my pride lead me? None. God leads me. He who leads me is my Master. Why is only God the Lord? This is because God created the heavens and the earth, and the God who created them rules over the kingdom and nation. God is not a local deity or national guardian deity that rules only Israel. Psalm 96:10 Let them say among the nations, The LORD reigns, and the world is established and unshakable; he will judge the peoples justly.
And God does not rule only one age. from eternity to eternity Therefore, God has no choice but to worship God not only in Israel, but all nations. (9) Worship is an act of acknowledging God as the Lord. Worship is to exalt the name of the Lord. Only the LORD is my God and Master.
Then why is God our master? It is through what he has done. It is in the creation, providence, and dominion of the entire universe. The greatness of the Lord is hidden in the mountains, the sea, nature, and the universe.(10)
The greatness of God is revealed through man. A weak-looking human conquers and rules this land. Although it does not have sharp teeth like a tiger or a lion, it does not have sharp claws like an eagle, it is not strong like an elephant, it cannot fly high like a bird, but it rules the world. Why? The Lord God commanded man to rule the earth and gave him wisdom to rule over the whole earth. This is because only humans were created in the image of God. In this way, the work of man is great, how much greater is God who made man? God who has done this wonderful thing, you alone are the Lord of our lives and the whole world.
Then, will human beings who have received the image of God automatically develop knowledge? no. Man lost the image of God through sin. You don't know what you need to know. Although human knowledge has advanced advanced science, has it really brought happiness to humans? Rather, it only added sin, death, and fear. I didn't learn the knowledge I really needed to learn, the way of God. They did not meet the true Master and did not learn the true truth. What is the true teacher we must meet, the true truth we must learn? It is God and the Way, that is, the Word from Him. (11. John 17:17) If you learn the way of the Lord, you will walk in the truth.
Only God, who teaches me the way of truth, is my Master. The great God does not remain self-sufficient, but works steadily toward us. God has mercy on us. One of the greatest expressions of His mercy is to save us. He saves me in the midst of a crisis and rescues the souls that will die and perish.(13) How can we not be thankful that sinners like us are the object of God's mercy and are part of the salvation plan that He has decreed? My lips naturally open to praise God. When I think of the great grace of God who rescued me, I can't help but sing praises from the depths of my heart. The Lord's name is exalted by my praise.(12) The merciful God is my master.
