Title: You must overcome temptation

We must overcome temptation (1 Corinthians 5:1-8)
The world is facing a powerful challenge. The world has been challenging us not to live as Christians. If we are not awake, we may fall into a position that shakes ourselves, makes others shake, and hides the glory of the living God.
If we are not awake and are just dragged into the world, of course, the temptations of the world come upon us. Greedy, sexual immorality, pleasure, idolatry, apostasy, etc. will happen.
In today's Bible, Paul raises one problem with the Corinthian church. It was a matter of fornication. Fornication refers to sexual depravity, not pure fellowship and life between a man and a woman. If you look at the text, it refers to a person who lives in a relationship between a man and a woman with a mother other than his own father's stepfather or physical mother. It's a possible world, but the problem is that there are people like that in the church, and people don't really care.
This is actually not just a family problem. The era of sexual depravity is what Corinth looked like at that time. In the idol (Artemis) temple of that time, sexual relations with the priestess who performed the rituals in the temple were considered part of the ritual.
Such cultural habits of spiritual corruption were also affecting the Corinthian church. Its appearance was not different from the fallen image of Sodom and Gomorrah. Looking at the situation,
- It was a time when we were caught in the lustful life given by the devil.
- Even the Corinthian church was a big spiritual problem that could only fall and fall if it went on like this.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is impossible to have a healthy faith without being healthy not only spiritually but also sexually between men and women. Faith cannot grow. You can't even present the gospel to people with your own healthy testimony. So, in 1 Corinthians 6, our body is said to be a temple where the Holy Spirit dwells. I want to restore a healthy family and healthy faith in the lesson Paul gives today, the truth of God.
1. To overcome temptation, we must restore a godly life.
This is the story of a frog that fell in a pot. It is said that after a little while, the water boiled and died.
This is the story of a duck that died of frozen legs. It is said that he tried to rest a little and move a little, and then he froze and died.
This is the story of a bronze duck who died of fat. It is said that he tried to eat a little more, but he was too heavy to fly and was caught and killed.
Guys, what do these dead animals have in common? What am I trying to say? Folks, numbness causes anger. Are you prepared to have your spiritual senses, your spiritual life, to keep you and your family healthy? Look around us, we are addicted to internet addiction, alcoholism, sex addiction, sports addiction, and wealth. Numerous addictions destroy spiritually healthy lives and homes.
Guys, would you say no? Would you say I don't care? What about our children? This issue cannot be ignored. Temptations close to addiction come to us too. And if I am not living to the full in Jesus, surely something else is coming to take over us. The important thing in the message of the text is, therefore, to understand. is to make a decision.
Verse 2) Instead, you have become proud, and why do you not consider yourself to be ...
In medieval history, we see Augustine. He was the one who lived a corrupted youth. However, he was a person who had spiritual troubles. One day he reads the words to the sound of a child's song. And in those words, he realizes his debauched life and turns around. According to his confession, he is thoroughly repenting of himself.
This text was written by Paul to the Corinthians, but it is a word of power with the Spirit of God. Paul exhorts the church in Corinth to survive only when they realize their situation and hold onto this word.
“The body is gone, but the spirit is with you” (verse 3).
Those of you who listen to Paul's words should also be with your family with spiritual counsel. Our parents must also lead a spiritual life. We must be able to take care of, rule, and exhort our children in the spirit. Understand it, but don't get carried away. David in the Bible also realizes his greatest weakness because of Bathsheba's work. It is the greatest human weakness. However, when he repents and prays, he is restored spiritually.
“Do not take your Holy Spirit from me, O God (Psalm 51:11) … The sacrifices of God will not despise a broken and contrite spirit, O God” (Psalm 51:17).
That's right. In this way, we must understand the heart of God before the Word.
Jesus said this. "If you are ashamed of me and my words in this lewd and sinful generation!" It's not someone else's story. Everyone who has faith and lives a godly life should keep these words in mind. For us and our children there is a purpose for the glory of God, there is the praise of forgiveness and love, the teaching and the reproof and the correction and the justifying word and nurture in faith. Amen.
2. To overcome temptation, we must be filled with the grace of the blood.
We are saved by the blood of the Lord. Like the hymn, we are “redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus, like the Lamb”. But just realizing it is not enough. Each of us must be transformed by the power of the blood to overcome it. However, when a person knows that they have a problem and cannot solve it, it is called addiction. Addiction is a state in which it is engraved in the brain and cannot be resolved by oneself. So it shows the stages of getting more and more engrossed, thinking easy at first, getting harder, frustrated, rationalizing, giving up, and hardening. These addictions require treatment. But the Bible teaches other powerful remedies. It heals the body and soul. That is the power of the blood of Jesus Christ.
“Verse 7, our Passover, Christ, has been sacrificed.”
That's right. Believe in Jesus! If you believe in the power of blood! If the Holy Spirit works in me through the blood! will change. It will be different. You become a new creature!
There was a therapist who recovered from alcoholism, and one day, as he passed by a bar, he was seduced by a powerful temptation. As he passed by, he smelled alcohol and tried to destroy his inner resolve. Then the man saw a grocer on the other side. He took out a large bucket of milk and drank it. Then it is said that he was able to overcome that phenomenon.
The Bible says, “Do not get drunk, for this is debauchery, but be filled with the Holy Spirit! (Ephesians 5:18)” Everyone, you must be filled with the blood of the Lord and the salvation of the Lord!
Everyone, definitely believe it.
the blood of Jesus,
The name of Jesus!
that ability!
It fixes it. restores it. make new. make it strong. It gives you new life.
I have a friend from my hometown whom I evangelized when I was young. But he always ran away in front of me. That friend went to the military and came to believe in Jesus, and my thoughts came to mind first. I can't tell you how happy I was to see the friend's butler, whom I met later, and to see him changed. May the transforming power of the Blood be applied to all of your lives again.
3. To overcome temptation, we must belong to the community of truth and love.
Everyone, don't you know that we ourselves are the Church? Did you know that the place where we gather is the church? Therefore, the church should be a community of love that embraces and accepts. But it is also a community of truth that is transformed by the word of truth and obedience. Love and reproof coexist, and we must move forward to a healthy faith and a healthy church. However, we must not forget that the temptations of the world are constantly coming into the church. Look at the environment around you now. The genetic manipulation crisis, the crisis of respect for life that makes and sells organs, and the crisis of homosexuality that destroys the foundation of the family are serious.
However, the biggest crisis is the crisis of trying to live without obeying the Word completely.
The biggest crisis is not realizing the spiritual corruption that comes into the church, not outside the church.
The holy family, the holy church, and the word of God must be kept. God speaks of the seriousness and determination through Paul in the text.
Verse 2) Defeat it. (Verse 11) A man called a brother---Do not associate with him, nor eat with him. (Verse 12) People of the church, do you not judge? 13) Cast them out.
Furthermore, 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, “With an unbeliever…” “Abandon even the appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22). Why does the Bible speak so firmly?
Because it is the church of God. This is because the church should be the light in the dark world. Because we are to live in the church. This is because our life must have a true beginning in the church.
Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. It remained defenseless, resulting in the loss of 18 battleships, 177 aircraft and 2,403 lives.
In the church we are to be united in a healthy faith. The reason Jesus died is for the church and because he is still the head of the church. I hope that you become one with Bensalem Church, a community of faith, overcome temptation and live for the Lord with a healthy family and healthy faith. Amen.
