Dan 9:20-24
20. When I say these things in prayer, confessing my sins and the sins of my people Israel, and making supplications before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God.
21. Immediately, while I was speaking and praying, Gabriel, the man whom I had seen in the previous vision, flew quickly and came to me about the time of the evening sacrifice.
22. He taught me and spoke to me, saying, Daniel, I have come to give you wisdom and understanding.
23. As soon as you began to pray, a command was given, and I am here to tell you. You have been greatly favored, therefore, consider these things and understand more.
24. Seventy weeks are appointed for your people and for your holy city: the transgression will be finished, and sins will be put to an end, iniquity will be made an end, everlasting righteousness will be revealed, visions and prophecies will be fulfilled, and the Most Holy One will be anointed.
Matthew 1:18-23
18. This is the birth of Jesus Christ: Mary his mother was betrothed to Joseph, and before they lived together, it was found that she had been conceived by the Holy Spirit.
19. Her husband, Joseph, was a righteous man.
20. As he was thinking about this, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife, for she who has been conceived is of the Holy Spirit.
21. You will give birth to a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
22. All these things were done to fulfill what the Lord had spoken through the prophets, saying,
23. Behold, a virgin will conceive and bear a son, and he will call his name Immanuel, which is translated, “God with us.”

Text: Dan 9:20-24, Matthew 1:18-23
The covenant made between the Israelites and God at Sinai was conditional on obedience to God. It is also emphasized repeatedly in Moses' farewell sermon. Entering the Promised Land was everyone's dream. However, entering the land of Canaan did not solve all problems. Because the problem was both inside and outside. Because there were natives who remained, and problems remained with the Israelites who became conquerors. This is because, as in Eden, there were conditions that were not yet met for those who set foot in the land of Canaan. It is a condition of obedience. Just like in Eden, following God's will. If this condition of obedience is met through training, all blessings will follow (Deuteronomy 28:1-14), and all disasters will follow if there is no fire (Deuteronomy 28:15-68).
So the conclusion of Moses' farewell sermon (Deuteronomy 30:15-20), that is, the result of obedience is 'life and blessing', and the result of disobedience is 'death and disaster', is often mentioned in every necessary chapter of history. . It is a reenactment of a ritual called covenant renewal. It is not a ceremony to change the contents of the covenant, but a ceremony to reaffirm it. The renewal of the covenant on Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal is one of them (Joshua 8:30-35). It also appears in Joshua's farewell sermon (Joshua 24:1-28). When the 70 years of the Babylonian captivity, which had to be endured as a result of disobedience, were less than 4 years left, Daniel, who was a captive in Pasay, prays to God (Daniel 9:1-19). Confess all your sins and ask for forgiveness “by your great mercy” (Daniel 9:18). Today's Old Testament text (Daniel 9:20-24) is heaven's answer to this. Salvation begins with the appearance of the anointed.
There is a proverb that says, “When a tiger dies, it leaves its skin, and when a person dies, it leaves a name. Among the great names left in the history of mankind, there is a name that stands out among the best. It is the most honorable name given to us by God, not on the part of humans (Philippians 2:6-11). First, His name is Christ (Matthew 1:17). The Greek word ‘Christ’, which corresponds to the Hebrew ‘Messiah’, is derived from the verb ‘krio’, which means ‘to anoint’ or ‘to anoint’ (Luke 4:18). Those who are set apart for the work of God are called the anointed of God. He is the king of the chosen people, the priest who mediates the gods, and the prophet who conveys the will of God. Christ is the only one who came to fulfill these three (John 3:34).
Second, His name is Jesus (verse 21). The Greek name ‘Jesus’ (Iesus) is derived from ‘Joshua’, which means ‘the salvation of the Lord’. Meanwhile, the Hebrew word ‘Joshua’ is reminiscent of two Old Testament figures. Joshua son of Nun and Joshua son of Jehozadak. One is the one who succeeded Moses and led the chosen people to the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 34:9), and the other was the one who worked with Zerubbabel, who was active during the Babylonian captivity (Haggai 1:1, 12, 14; Zechariah 6:11-13). It is a name that fulfills the role from slave to free and from captivity to liberation. The angel of the Lord who visited Joseph named the baby ‘Jesus’, which is consistent with what he said about what he would accomplish (Matthew 1:21). Third, his name is Emmanuel. It means “God is with us” (Isaiah 7:14; 8:8). It is a name that signals the beginning of a new life and lifts the dark darkness of human history stained with sin and death.
