Title: Your will be done/ Matthew 6:10
Content: Your will be done/ Matthew 6:10b
Key Verse: “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (verse 10).
Word: Any ‘disciple of Jesus’ has one earnest wish. “I want to live the rest of my life according to God’s will.” The problem is that it is not easy to discern the will of God. Even if you know what God's will is, it's more difficult to do it right? This is where our worries and pains lie.
Clearly, it is difficult and inconvenient to properly discern God's will and live according to it. But paradoxically, peace and happiness, that is, the kingdom of God, will be established there.
In the text, the Lord continues to teach prayer. “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” This means that God’s will must be done through my life on earth now, just as the Father’s will has already been done through Jesus Christ. In order to accomplish God's will in this way, we must first discern what His will is.
God uses three tools to discern His will. First, it is the opposite sex. A personal God often reveals His will through reason given to man. Another environment. God naturally leads us to obey God's will through our environment. Do not overdo it in everything, do not avoid it, and accept it in a natural way (Proverbs 16:19). Lastly, the Word of God, the Bible. By reading, listening to, and meditating on God's Word on a daily basis, we can know God's will. However, God's Word must always be read and listened to by grasping the context in the flow of the whole. After you have objectively grasped the context in which the Word was given and what the fundamental message of this Word is, you must then apply it to yourself. The will of God revealed in the Bible, which we are well aware of, is 'the salvation of mankind (John 6:39-40), a holy life (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4), the filling of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:17-18), and all-weather happiness ( 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18), suffering in doing good (1 Peter 3:17).
There is a prayer poem like this in the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem. “I do not know all of your Father’s will/I do not know one thing, but I know one thing/Your will/It is good. That's right. We already know a lot about God's will through the Bible. So now we have work to do. We do not know all the will of God, but we obey what we already know. When we live in obedience like this, the kingdom of God, overflowing with wonderful righteousness, joy, and peace, will come.
Prayer: Lord, make us instruments of your will. May your name be sanctified by submitting to your known will. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
