Hymn: 511 (New Hymn 314) 'I Love My Savior Jesus More'
Meditation: Who leads the world? He is not a person who lives solely on power and strength, but a person who enters into problems and solves them.
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
main text: '… The centurion's beloved servant fell ill and died...' (Luke 7:1-10)
When Jesus entered Capernaum, he unexpectedly met a man of amazing faith. It was the centurion. He was in a difficult situation to show good faith, but he had the faith that Jesus praised. A centurion was a man who knew the worth of a person. The centurion was a Roman soldier who colonized Palestine at the time, and was an officer in the garrison of the colony who could rule with military power in an area.
The word love appears twice in the text, once when introducing a servant and once saying that he loved our people. These two have different meanings. The love used when we say we loved our nation is literally love. However, in verse 2, the centurion's use of the word love when he introduces the servant means that he valued it very high. It means a servant whom the centurion values very much, a servant whom the centurion values very much. You don't know how precious it is to say that we recognize the value of people. When he loves the nation he conquers and rules and rules with love for the people, he is not only respected but can become a problem solver.
Furthermore, by valuing a man, especially his servant, he was able to become a man of respect, recognition, and praise. He was also a man who knew how to serve people. He was a man who commanded, directed, and demanded obedience above others. He knew how to serve the Jews, not just slaves. He was a man who served his neighbors.
Finally, he was a man of good faith. When we have good faith, we become good problem solvers. I pray that the saints will be victorious with this faith.
Prayer: Let me live with love like a centurion, and raise me up as a servant. Let me see the value of people first and live with the love of God. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
