Title A precious thing to be proud of

Hymn: 102 “There is nothing more precious than the Lord Jesus” / Meditation: The only thing that those who believe in Jesus should truly boast is the cross of Jesus Christ / Confession of Faith: Apostles’ Creed / Text: Galatians 6:14
Word: We have the instinct to brag about what we are good at or have more than others. Health, knowledge, money, academic achievement, honor, etc. If there is something better than others, I want to brag about it. But they sometimes make us proud and fall for it.
But what do we who believe in Jesus really need to boast about? It is the cross of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul had many things to boast about, such as his birth, family, education, etc., but after meeting Jesus, he regarded all of them as harm and made only the cross of Jesus his pride. So he said in a confident voice, “I have nothing to boast about except in the cross of Jesus Christ.” By the crucifixion of Christ, we are no longer the standards and values of the world, but new people who live a new life according to the standards and values of the kingdom of God.
And yet, what are we proud of? Do you boast of your health, knowledge, material things, honor, and socially successful parents or well-educated children? But remember that if it makes you proud, if it hinders you from humbly coming to Jesus Christ, if it dulls our lips to boast only of the cross, then we should remember that they do us harm. And they will soon disappear like the morning mist. Eternal life is only given through the cross of Jesus Christ.
Prayer: God, let me put away the pride and foolishness of wanting to boast of what I have and only boast about the cross of Jesus Christ. Amen
