Purpose Driven Life (27) Overcoming Trials
Text: 2 Timothy 2:22 / And flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
We may sometimes feel that temptations are too strong for us to overcome, but God promises not to give us temptations we can't handle. We can overcome temptation by doing the four Scriptural elements to overcome temptation.
1. Divert your attention
Temptation always comes from thoughts, so the quickest way to neutralize it is to change the channel of your thoughts and divert your attention. Sometimes you have to run away to physically get out of the situation.
We need to fill the heart, which is the most spiritually weak organ, with the Word of God and other good thoughts. We must apply the substitution principle of overcoming bad thoughts by thinking good thoughts and overcoming evil with good (Hebrews 3:1). Therefore, holy brethren, together in our heavenly calling, deepen our faith in Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our doctrine. think
2. Share the problem with a friend of good faith or a group that can help.
It is necessary to speak to one person to whom we have nothing to say to the world, but to whom we can speak frankly, or in small groups who will love and trust us unconditionally. Whether you are battling a chronic bad habit, addiction, or serious temptation, you will never be able to overcome this situation alone, so you need a trusted partner to pray and encourage. (James 5:16) Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayers of the righteous have great power at work.
Problems grow and grow in darkness, but when they come out into the light of truth, their size decreases. When we cast off all the arrogance of hiding our faults and the thought of showing our weaknesses to others and become humble, we will have the strength to overcome trials.
3. Fight against evil.
After we humble ourselves and receive God's help, we must fight against evil, not passively surrendering ourselves to Satan's attacks. The first step in resisting the devil is to not waver in your faith in Christ by putting on the helmet of salvation. If we trust God absolutely, Satan cannot force anything on us. Second, we must use the Word of God as our weapon.
Just as when Jesus was tempted by quoting the Bible, Satan is most afraid of the word. We too must have the word of truth in our hearts and be prepared to always remember it. If you don't memorize Bible verses, you're just a gun without bullets.
4. Realize your weaknesses.
God warns us not to be arrogant or overconfident. Because it brings disaster. Given the circumstances, any of us can sin, so we must never let go of our vigilance, think about our limitations, and increase our trust in God. (1 Corinthians 10:12) So let him who thinks he is standing beware lest he fall
You are right. “Please don't let this suffering that I'm going through go into vain. So, make sure that you receive the great and wonderful blessing, the blessing that God has promised and prepared for you.” This is the right attitude of those who are being tempted. The test is not to be taken, but to be overcome. It's not a loss, it's a benefit. It's not about weakening it, it's about making it stronger.
Of course, the exam is painfully difficult. But if it is God's economy, there is God's love and God's hand of blessing toward me. God continues to grow our faith through trials today and leads us into a world of greater grace. Now let us also face the test with joy. God made it possible for you. Believe that you can handle it and move forward with faith. So, I hope that you will enjoy the blessings of God and the glory of victory by overcoming the test.
Day 27 / About the purpose of my life
Points to Ponder: There is always a way to escape.
Memorable Words: “And with the temptation also makes the way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Questions that leave life:
1. Do you have a partner of faith to pray with in order to overcome the constantly coming test?
2. Why do the more you try to shake off temptation, the deeper you fall into the thoughts of temptation?
