Title Abraham's Intercession
Contents
Hymn: 482 "The Time of My Prayer"
Meditate Prayer: ‘May I become an intercessor who embraces the world and prays through deep communion with the Lord!’
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
Text: Genesis 18:22~33
Key Verse: “It is impossible for the Lord to do so to kill the righteous with the wicked, and to make the righteous and the wicked equal. Will not he who judges the world do justice?” (Genesis 18:25)
Word: Abraham has always been a spiritually sensitive person. One day, when God appeared to Abraham near the oaks of Mamre, he recognized God immediately. And they worshiped God with joy, welcomed them into their home, and did their best to welcome them with utmost sincerity. God, who was satisfied with his heart, promised that he would have a son Isaac around this time next year and told him his plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah.
In verse 22 and below, after the angels departed for Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham did not depart from God and said, “Will you destroy the righteous along with the wicked? If there are fifty righteous in the city, will you destroy it, and will not forgive for the fifty righteous?”
Abraham's prayer has several characteristics. First, it was a humble prayer to humble oneself. In verse 27, Abraham sees himself as dust and prays to God. Second, Abraham's prayer was not a prayer for himself, but an intercession for Sodom. Abraham prayed so earnestly to God for Sodom, which had nothing to do with him. It was not even a prayer for Lot, his nephew, who lived in Sodom. In that case, Abraham would have prayed directly to God for Lot. Third, Abraham's prayer was a persistent prayer. Not only did I pray once, but I prayed five times over and over again. In the prayer, “If there are fifty righteous in the city, will you not destroy it and forgive the fifty righteous?” God answered, “If I find fifty righteous people in Sodom, I will forgive them all over the place.” you promised. However, Abraham asked for forgiveness even if there were 45, 30, 20, and finally 10 righteous people, and he received an answer.
Prayer: Heavenly Father! Like Abraham, humble us, embrace the nation and the nations, and pray in intercession so that we may become God's people who accomplish your will on this earth. I pray in Jesus name. Amen
