Sermons for Preaching

Title [Acts 17:10-15] Evangelism in Beroea

Paul had considerable success in evangelism in Thessalonica. So many people turned to the Lord to the extent that the local Jews were jealous. Acts 17:4 says, “Some of them, a great crowd of devout Greeks, and not a few noble women, were persuaded to follow Paul and Silas.” However, when they could no longer stay in Thessalonica, Paul and Silas moved to Berea to preach the gospel, and the text testifies that many people came to believe. Now, I would like to receive grace by introducing the contents of this text.

1. The Bereas were absorbed in the Word of God (11).

Malachi 3:10 says, “Put your whole tithe into a storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and with it you test me and see if I will not open the gates of heaven and pour out you so that there is no room for a blessing.” By putting these words into practice, you can find out whether they are true or not. We need this kind of life too. We hope that our faith will mature and bear fruit and we will enjoy a blessed life every day as we “received the word with all earnestness and searched the Scriptures daily to see if this was so” (11).

2. God protected Paul through people.
