Meditation: Are you experiencing the Almighty God of Love in your life?
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
Text: "Father, Father, all things are possible with you; remove this cup from me" (Mark 14:36, Hos 11:1-11)
The Bible introduces God as the God of creation, the Almighty God. This God is our Father. It is Jesus who taught us to call God our Father. Jesus himself used the expression 'Father' to symbolize personal relationships, and he taught us to call it that way too. The expression “God the Father” is perhaps the most friendly and affectionate expression a human being can give.
The expression “father” that Jesus Himself used in the text is the word “father” originally used by children. No one has ever called upon God by such an intimate name. The name Dad contains a sense of intimacy and love that cannot be found in any other name. The God we can call Father like this is Almighty.
Abraham called God 'Elohim'. It means that God is in control of history. This word also means the god of gods, that is, the supreme god. Moses called God 'Yahweh'. Yahweh means 'I am who I am', and it means transcending existence. People later confessed this name as 'Lord of Armies'. In short, it contains all properties. So he is omnipotent. Even more amazing is the fact that the Almighty God loves you and me.
Pastor Bon Hoeffer, who was executed as an assassin during the Nazi era, said: "God, who does not suffer, cannot free man from suffering. But God was suffering with him in his misery. Man's misery is God's misfortune, and man's cries are like God's cries." God is waiting for us to share our suffering like this.
Prayer: Thank you for making us children who are not worthy to call God our Father. Help us to taste the power and love of Heavenly Father in our daily lives. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
