Title/ Are you the one to come?
Text/ Matthew 11:2-14
Now is the season of Advent.
Today is the week of waiting for the birth of Jesus (Christmas).
Today's sermon begins with the anguished question of John the Baptist, who was struggling in a lonely prison.
According to the Jewish historian Josephus, John the Baptist was imprisoned with chains by Herod Antipas in a pitch-black crypt in the city of Machaerus, east of the Dead Sea.
Let's take a look at the words of John the Baptist who was facing death.
1, John's question verse 3
“They said to Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we wait for someone else?”
This question shows that he first met Jesus in the Jordan River and baptized him and heard the voice of heaven. As his confidence in him began to grow, he began to doubt his own situation.
“When John heard what Christ had done in prison, he sent his disciples”
When you hear the news from outside through the disciples, you must have felt sad about why Jesus did so many miracles but he didn't take any action on me.
Are you the one we have been waiting for so long for the “Messiah” to come?
Or should we wait for another “Messiah” to save mankind?
John the Baptist's question is also our question in a way.
(Mal 3:1) “Behold, I will send my messenger, saith the LORD of hosts, who will make the way before me.
and the Lord, whom you seek, will come suddenly to the temple, which you long for.
The messenger of the covenant will come.”
2, will you wait for someone else? verse 3
Let's restore the sound from heaven!
(John 1:33-36) “I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water”
(Matthew 3:17) “There was a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
do you”
If you listen to the voices of the world and get drunk on the world, you will not be able to hear the voice of God.
3, Jesus’ answer, verse 4
Knowing that John's question was doubtful, Jesus tells his disciples:
“Go and tell John what you hear and see.”
Isaiah 35:5-6 He quotes Isaiah 61:1 and says, “Do not stumble because of me.”
As the prophet prophesied, I am the “Messiah” and the “Savior” everyone has been waiting for.
Conclusion Verses 7-12 -
Just because you can't see it, don't be shaken like a swaying reed, but as a believer, you should know the rest of your life as an opportunity that the Lord has given you and run toward heaven.
The Lord asks us. (Matthew 16:15-16) “Who do you say I am?”
My Confession “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”
Even if life is difficult and difficult, your faith in the Lord must not be shaken.
