Title As John Saw / John 1:10-18

Contents

Subject: As John Saw

Text: John 1:10-18

The day after tomorrow is Christmas Day. It is fortunate that Christmas is not as noisy and noisy as it used to be, but it is unfortunate that most people do not know the true meaning of Christmas. When you think of ‘Christmas’, you think of cards and trees, so even if it’s wrong, it’s a long way off. When you think of “Christmas,” the first thing that comes to mind is Jesus. It is important how we welcome Jesus in the coming Christmas.

It's important to know who he is in order to get it right. Even if we usually greet guests, we need to know him to do well. You need to know what the food or the environment will be like. We must know Him in order to welcome the coming Jesus. Today's Bible speaks of Jesus delivered by John. John knows Jesus very well. We can see Jesus as John saw. So, how did John see Jesus?

The Word made flesh

That's right. John saw Jesus as the Word made flesh. (14) “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” . (John 1:1) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Also, (1 John 1:1) is said to be “the word of life from the beginning”. (1 John 1:2) “This life was made manifest, and we have seen and testify of this eternal life, and we declare it to you, that he was with the Father and was made manifest to us.” What is clear is that the Word was in the beginning, and that He appeared to us.

That is, Jesus was from the beginning and is God. The word “beginning” testifies to this. (Genesis 1:1) It is the same beginning as “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. As for how you were, you were there with the Word. At that time, He was as the Word, but now He has come in the flesh. In difficult theological terms, this is called the Incarnation. [Word] is the power of creation. The Lord created the world with His Word. (John 1:3) “All things were made through him, and without him nothing was made that was made.”

This Word became flesh. The Word is an attribute of God. So Jesus is God. (Philippians 2:6) “While being in the form of God, he did not consider equality with God to be robbery, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human form, and being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death. He died on the cross.” To take on the body means that He descended into a lowly place. And to save mankind, He became like humans.

John testifies to that very fact. (Verse 15) “John testified about him and cried out, saying, ‘This is this man I said before, He who comes after me precedes me, because he precedes me.” Jesus is far ahead. John saw Jesus right away. The prophet Micah also testified of this. (Micah 5:2) “Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

As Micah did and John did, it became clear how we should think of our Lord ahead of Christmas. Jesus is God. Jesus is from the beginning. He is the Word. But he came to be flesh. We need to be greeted with our whole body, knowing that we are not a great human being or a great saint, but God who is the Word.

one who works with people

(Verse 14) “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” Yes. Why are you here? You came to be with us. The word “dwelling” means “to pitch a tent.” He came to camp with us and to dwell with us. What a loving act. (Verse 14) “And we beheld his glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (verse 14). The purpose of Jesus' coming is the glory of God. The purpose of our life is to glorify God.

Jesus, the only begotten Son, became a man as a way of revealing the glory of God among mankind. Such a method is a blessing to us. (Verses 16, 17) “And we all received out of his fulness, grace upon grace. The law was given through Moses, and grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” Moses is a type of Jesus in many ways. Giving the law through him is very moving for Israel. Likewise, the coming of Jesus is a very moving grace for us today.

There is someone who is reliable when you are together somehow. Just like humans, how reassured it is to have Jesus, who is God, with us. (Psalm 23:1,4-5) “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff comfort me. You have set a table for me in the sight of my enemies; you have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Yes, that Jehovah is Jesus.

Jesus is coming to be with us. He approaches the disciples who are afraid of the wind and says: (Matthew 14:27) “Jesus immediately spoke to him, saying, Take it easy, it is I, do not be afraid.” Yes, that is the reason Jesus came. Trust that Jesus is with you right now, being with you, protecting and protecting you.

who should be welcomed

Unfortunately, people at that time did not recognize Jesus. But John knew Jesus all too well. So he speaks like a scream. (Verse 10) “He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not know him.” Perhaps John's heart was too heavy. I couldn't stay still. So he goes on.

(11-13) “When he came to his own land, his people did not receive him, but to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God; They are born of God.” John fulfills the role of preparing the way for Jesus very well. To those who do not know in this day and age, we are those who know. Then, today, we must bear the work that John did at that time.

First of all, you must receive Jesus who is coming to you with the heart of John. I'm not right and I can't tell others to be right. Without knowing, I cannot say to others Allah. Please bring Jesus to our church, to your homes, and to your hearts. The tree is not the problem, the card is not the problem, but the heart to receive Jesus is the problem. (Rev 3:20) “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and sup with him, and he with me.”
