Title Because I Love You
Content Title: Because I Love You Much
Bible: Luke 7:36-46
A certain Pharisee invited Jesus to his house for a meal. It is recorded in the text that the woman who poured perfume on Jesus there was “a woman who has sinned in the city.” It probably means that she is a woman who is so sinful and great that the whole town knows all of her sins. He is a sinner that everyone in the town knows, but only Jesus, who is called a prophet, does not seem to know, so the Pharisee who invited Jesus wondered how he could stand still without knowing who the woman washing his feet was, saying that he was a prophet. However, Jesus read the inner heart of the Pharisee, which everyone in attendance could not read, and told the story of the person who was forgiven 500 denarii and the person who was forgiven 50 denarii.
First: I wet my feet with tears.
“He turned to the woman and said to Simon, ‘Do you see this woman? When I came into your house, you gave me no water to wash my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and washed them with her hair’” (verse 44). Why did the Pharisee ask Jesus? Couldn't the woman wash Jesus' feet with her tears when she didn't even give him water to wash his feet? Could it have been poured out with the precious oil of alabaster? Even though the Pharisee was forgiven 500, he thought he was the one who had forgiven 50. But the woman found that 500 was forgiven and 500 was forgiven. There are people who live by thinking that they are sinners. They always have grace.
Second: He kissed my feet.
“You have not kissed me, but I have not stopped kissing my feet from the time I entered” (verse 45). The lips of a loved one are sweet and bring happiness in any case. But kissing someone you don't like will be arduous. An expression of love can be kissed even on the feet. So, doesn't it say that love transcends borders and even death? In that sense, I want you to love God, Jesus. I want you to love and live. Wouldn't it be great if you could live your life without washing your feet with tears and kissing them because you love Jesus so much and God loves you so much?
Third: I poured perfume on my feet.
“You have not poured olive oil on my head, but he has poured perfume on my feet” (verse 46). It was because the grace and blessings I received from God were too many to bear if I did not do so. As Jesus said, the woman was not blessed with 50 denarii, but was blessed with 500 denarii. David expresses his grace in this way (Psalm 32:1). Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven and whose sins are covered. Paul was also a person who knew that grace. (1 Corinthians 15:10) The confession that 'I am what I am is the grace of God' and especially the confession that he 'I will not boast except in the cross' (Galatians 6:14) was a man who knew the grace of the atonement better than anyone else. It was because he won.
