Because of love / John 21:1-17
“After they had had breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.
He said, "Feed my lambs" (21:15).
1. Jesus returns to Tiberias (v1-2)
The resurrected Jesus appeared to the disciples 11 times in 40 days. It was said that he appeared to the disciples while fishing on the shores of Tiberias the third time (v14). It is because of love that he visits the disciples who have returned to fishing three times. The Lord did not give up on those whom He called to be disciples and pursued them to the end. It is because of his love for his people to the end that he came to find the incomprehensible disciples who went down to the sea to fish after witnessing the risen Lord twice. That's right. People do not change themselves. Even seeing the risen Lord does not change. Without the work of the Holy Spirit, human beings cannot change themselves. And because of the failed past and shameful past, I couldn't go to the Lord and returned to my old job because I didn't realize God's greater grace that I could tolerate and digest my own faults.
2. Jesus made the night of failure into the morning of success and blessing (v3-19)
"They caught nothing that night...(v. 3b)... Guys, do you have any fish?" He answered, "No." (v5) When the Lord came, they could not catch a single fish. . It was a night of failure and frustration. It was an empty night. The Lord came and told him to cast his net on the right side of the boat, and when he threw the net, there were so many fish that it could not be lifted. The situation is very similar to when we first received the Lord's call in Luke 5:1-11. Even if we catch fish hard, we face a night of failure and setbacks when we leave the Lord behind, but when the Lord comes to us, speaks to us, and obeys His Word, we have a morning of success and blessing. "Danny"'s faith is the secret to experiencing blessings and success. The change of water into wine (John 2:1-11) and the change of bitter water into sweet water (Ex 15:22-26) is the faith of “… The faith of "..Danny" allows you to experience the blessings of both. It is the blessing of discovering the Lord rather than the blessing of all things. It is the blessing of turning bitter water into sweet water and allowing us to meet the oasis of Elim. It is a blessing that not only turns water into wine, but also many people will believe in the Lord and glorify God.
3. Jesus gives a new mission (v15-17)
It is not easy to understand why a new mission is given to Simon, who makes mistakes over and over, not just once. I can only explain it because I love you. After preparing and feeding breakfast, he quietly but powerfully called Simon. "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these? Feed my lambs." You said it three times. Simon was troubled when he set the charcoal fire and checked it three times. Because I remembered his bitter failure in denying that he did not know the Lord. But the Lord did not rebuke. You did not ask about the past, but only confirmed that you love me in the present. And he said, "Feed my sheep." If you have confirmed obedience in your call to be a fisherman, you have confirmed love when you are giving your mission to shepherd the sheep.
The Lord entrusts precious sheep to those who love Him. Because we love the Lord, we too can take care of His sheep. Today the Lord asks. "Do you love me?" How would you answer?
