From that point of view, David's order to take a census cannot be viewed as a bad thing. In fact, the census itself is not a sin. Because there has been a census before. No, the Bible contains a book called In 1:1-4 of that book, “After the children of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the second year, on the first day of the second month, the LORD spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, ‘You must be the number of every male in all the congregation of the children of Israel. You shall number them according to their tribes and their ancestral houses according to their number. You and Aaron shall number by their camps all those who are twenty years old or older in Israel who are capable of going out to battle; Do it.' ...” is recorded. So why is the census that David had done so problematic? The difference is that Moses' census was commanded by God, whereas David's census was done according to Satan's impulse. Let's look at 1 Chronicles 21:1 again: "Satan arose against Israel, and stirred up David to number Israel."
However, we must not overlook the fact that Satan only urged David, not coerced him. In other words, it was Satan's impulse to make David take the census, but that doesn't mean that David, who was overcome by the impulse, can never be relieved of his guilt. Joab, the commander of David's army, reluctantly took a census at the king's command and urging, but he assured David that ordering the census of the people of Israel would make them sin against God. Nevertheless, David compelled the census.
Listen to Joab: “May the LORD multiply his people a hundred times as much as they are now. My lord the king, are not all these people my lord's servants? Why does my lord command this thing? Why do you make Israel sin?” (1 Chronicles 21:3) “May the Lord increase his people a hundred times as much as they are now.” It is a God who can overcome anything.
God's response to David's cry is the content of today's text. The angel of God had David go up through the prophet Gad and build an altar to God at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite (text verse 18). David gave Ornan six hundred shekels of gold to buy his threshing floor so that the plague would stop among the people (verse 22), and there he built an altar to God and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings (verse 25-26). God accepted David's sacrifice and responded by sending fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering, and the angel put his drawn sword back into its sheath according to God's command (text verses 26-27). It was the moment when the wrath of God caused by David's transgression and the calamity that befell Israel came to an end. David acted very foolishly, committed a great sin and asked God for forgiveness and mercy. When he saw that God answered and showed favor to him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he sacrificed there again (verse 28).

Let's read Luke 10:38-42 together.
38 As they were going on their way, Jesus entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 She had a younger sister named Mary, and she sat at the Lord's feet and listened to him. 40 Martha was making preparations. And he came to Jesus and said, "Lord, do you not think that my brother is leaving me to work alone? Command him to help me." 41 The Lord answered and said to him, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. 42 But if only a few things are enough, or even just one thing is enough. Mary has chosen the good part, and it will not be taken away from her.
