Hymn: Chapter 278 'Before the Beloved Lord'
Meditation: The Bible says that blessed are those who give. Happiness lies in giving, not in receiving. When we live as givers, we can become channels of blessing.
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
Text: “The crowd met an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread to eat, and to drink of water… ” (1 Samuel 30:11-17)
David asked God if he could catch up with the Amalekites who had taken away his family. God said, 'Go after them, and you will surely pursue them, and you will surely find your family and property. David receives God's answer and immediately comes down to the south in search of the Amalekites with his 600 men.
On the way down, looking for traces, David's men came carrying a man around him and put him down in front of David. was an Egyptian. Only the horse was alive, like a dead body. It was dry and had no appearance. When David saw him, he felt pity for him. He told him to give him something to eat. The road to go is urgent, but David stops the pursuit to take care of this man.
We live in a busy world. Everyone is focused on their own work. I can't afford to look back on others. But God rewards those who give with blessings. When David took great care of the abandoned and dying Egyptians, his spirit returned and communication became possible. David asked the man, "Who are you and where are you from?" The man replied, "I was an Egyptian and a servant of the Amalekites, and I was sick and died, so he left me."
Through this man, David gets the information he needs to fight the Amalekites. Under the guidance of this Egyptian, they pursued the Amalekites and achieved a great victory. When you reach out to someone who is like an obstacle in chasing the Amalekites, that is a stepping stone to victory.
We can never be satisfied or happy unless we live by giving. When you become a channel of blessing for others, you can enjoy true happiness. Prayer: God, the source of blessing, help us to live the life of a giver. Please make it a channel of blessing. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
