Lesson 51 Call to Daniel (Daniel 5:10-12)

5:10-12

The Empress Dowager entered the banquet palace because of the words of the king and his nobles, and she said to them, “Long live the king. Do not worry about your thoughts and do not change your face. He was in the days of the king's father, with understanding, understanding and wisdom as the wisdom of the gods. This Daniel's heart was agile, and he was able to interpret dreams, reveal secrets, and dispel doubts, with knowledge and understanding. Now call on Daniel, and he will tell you the interpretation.

This is verse 10. "The Empress Dowager." The king's living mother was called the empress. The historian Herodotus identifies the empress's name as Litocris. Litocris was the mother of King Belshazzar, the wife of Nabonidus, the first ruler of Babylon at that time, and the daughter of King Nebuchadnezzar.

"Because of the words of the king and his nobles." Perhaps someone told the empress what happened in the banquet hall. And when he heard the news, he said, "I came into the palace of the feast." came in quickly.

Come into the palace and see what they say. "Then he said, "Long live, O king." Of course, it's meant to be formal to the king, but can the king enjoy longevity when a person says, "Long live the king"? What about King Belshazzar? That was his last day. 5:30 Words.

"That night Belshazzar king of the Chaldeans was slain."

That was the last day of Belshazzar. However, the Empress Dowager came in and greeted her, saying, "Long live the King." It means to live long. But what did James 4:14 say?

"You do not know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a moment and then vanishes."

He said he didn't know what to do tomorrow. Neither Belshazzar nor the Empress did know. It is said that life is like a mist that appears for a moment and then disappears. We must know this and live. And what is said in Hebrews 9:27?

"It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment."

Everyone is destined to die someday. But no one knows when it will be his last. Belshazzar did not know that it was the last day. Belshazzar did not know, the Empress Dowager did not know, and no one around him would have known. So, what kind of mindset should we always live with? In the Talmud the wise men said: "Live as if today were the first day of your life." That's what it means to live faithfully. "Also, live as if today is the last day of my life, preparing." Because we never know when God will call us. It is appointed for man to die once, but after that, everyone must stand before God's judgment seat. Thinking about that fact, always act with fear and trembling. Those who live while preparing for the end while thinking about what it would be like if I stood before the Lord today would be the wise ones.

Let's continue. “Long live the king, do not trouble your thoughts.” is not to suffer. "It's not going to change your countenance." is not to be afraid. That there is no need to panic. And verse 11 explains why. "There is a man in your kingdom with the spirit of holy gods." The question is whether there is not one king in the country. It was said that the man had the spirit of the holy gods. 4:8 Let's look for the word.

"Then Daniel came before me, who was named Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in him is the spirit of the holy gods."

Here I am King Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel is said to have the spirit of the holy gods. See also 4:9.

"Applause, Beldesasar, for you have the spirit of the holy gods in you."

Let's skip ahead and look at 4:18.

"I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had this dream, and tell me the interpretation, you Belteshazzar. All the wise men of my kingdom have not been able to make known to me the interpretation, but you are able to do it, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you."

King Nebuchadnezzar referred to Daniel as "a man with the spirit of the holy gods." The Empress Dowager, daughter of King Nebuchadnezzar, introduced Daniel as such. He introduced himself as a man with the spirit of the holy gods. The Empress Dowager still remembers the strong impression Daniel gave during the reign of her father, King Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel told me that he was a man with the spirit of holy gods, a man with the Spirit of God, a man full of the Holy Spirit, and a man of God.

Then let's continue with the text. "As one who was in the time of the king's father." What does it mean to grow up in the time of the king's father? It's a hint to us that he's not in public office right now. Everyone, how old was Daniel at this time? Said to be 81 years old. Daniel was taken away at the age of 15 in the first year of Nebuchadnezzar, and King Nebuchadnezzar reigned for 43 years. Add up to 58. Then, 23 years after the death of King Nebuchadnezzar, King Belshazzar died and Babylon was destroyed. 15+43+23=81. Daniel was 81 years old. I was old. I was old enough to retire. More than that, when the king changes, all the servants usually change as well. When the president changes, doesn't all cabinets change? Prime Ministers change, Ministers change. Likewise, when the king changes, all the ministers change. Danielle, the son of the king's father, is now retired from public office and must have been living a quiet life of prayer and meditating on the Word of God day by day.

Then look. “I have insight, insight, and wisdom.” This cannot be a high praise. What could be the cause of Daniel's understanding, understanding, and wisdom? He had understanding, understanding, and wisdom because he had the spirits of the holy gods in his heart. It happened because God bless you.

What did the Empress Dowager compare Daniel's power to? It is not the wisdom of men, but it is said that he was “like the wisdom of the gods.” compared to the wisdom of the gods. So the king's father, King Nebuchadnezzar, made Daniel high, and what did he do with him? “He made him a man of applause, magician, Chaldean magician, and fortune teller.” As the elders of all the wise men of Babylon, it is said that they made them a round of applause.

Then look at verse 12. "of this Daniel whom the king named Belteshazzar." Belteshazzar was a Babylonian name and Daniel was a Hebrew name. Who, but not King Nebuchadnezzar, actually gave Daniel the Babylonian name Belteshazzar? In chapter 1, the eunuch gave this name to Babylon.

Saying "this Daniel", the Empress Dowager again explains Daniel's powers. "He is agile at heart, he has knowledge and intelligence." You said your mind is agile. that is, it is fast. He is not a slow-witted person, but agile and knowledgeable, has all the useful information, and is intelligent. It means that you are a person with wisdom that God has given you.

How did he show Daniel's power as a result? First, "Able to interpret dreams." Two dreams of King Nebuchadnezzar were interpreted. Second, "to reveal secret words." Literally translated, it means that you are good at solving riddles. It is the ability to reveal secret words well that others do not understand well. Third, "Because I was able to break down the question." It is a person who has the ability to solve difficult problems. Daniel's power was practically demonstrated in three ways.

And what is the Empress Dowager admonishing King Belshazzar? "Call Daniel now." Is Daniel at the banquet hall now? Daniel was not there. Daniel was undoubtedly a nobleman in the city of Babylon. It was applause. It was the Prime Minister. No one could have been that tall. Of course, King Belshazzar must have sent an invitation to Daniel when he held a big feast and invited nobles. But Daniel was not there. Why? What kind of seat is that? It is a place to have a feast, trample on God's holiness, and praise idols. Would Daniel be able to attend such an event? He was a man who dared to refuse the wine and delicacies offered by King Nebuchadnezzar, who was more powerful and fearful than King Belshazzar. So, will you go there when King Belshazzar invites you? Daniel would have turned down the invitation.

So are we. Like Daniel like this, we must have faith of one heart and faith in the Lord. I hope that all of you will have a strong faith in not going to places you shouldn't go, seeing things you shouldn't see, and not making friends you shouldn't make.

Then look. "Then he will tell you the interpretation." Now, Empress Dowager is thinking wrong. In the old days, people thought that only by interpreting a dream, all the ominous contents of the dream could be overcome. Likewise, he thought that all the ominous content of the writings could be overcome by merely interpreting the strange, secret writings on the walls. Does interpreting it solve it? It's not like that. God wants to judge King Belshazzar now, but can it be resolved by human interpretation? All problems can be fundamentally solved only by receiving mercy from God, but Empress Dowager was still thinking wrong.

The same is true. Fundamentally, the problems we are facing today can only be solved if God has mercy on us. It is not something that can be solved with human help. Even this morning, God loved us all and called us. Above all, God has given us all His great grace so that all our problems can be solved cleanly, we can enjoy peace in the Lord and live this day with joy and joy. I bless all of you who go, in the name of Jesus.
