The text is Matthew 17:1-8
Then, how did Jesus change, who gave the three disciples a mysterious spiritual experience on a high mountain?
First, his face shone like the sun. When Moses came down from Mount Sinai after receiving the Ten Commandments, Moses' face shone, so he was afraid that the people would come near him, so Moses covered his face with a towel (Exodus 34:29-33). A model, a type, a shadow. Revelation 21:21-25 describes Jesus as a lamp brighter than the sun or moon.
Second, his clothes became as white as light. Jesus radiated not only from his face, but from his entire body, penetrating through his garments, revealing the divine divinity that he could not dare approach. If there was an object brighter than the sun ( λιο ) and light (φω ) at that time, the author of Matthew would have used that expression. The divine spectacle, in which the spiritual state from within is expressed outwardly as light and white, must have captivated the disciples for the rest of their lives. I hope you too have these divine experiences.
Third, he spoke with Moses and Elijah. Moses is from 1500 BC and Elijah is from 600 BC, but the Holy Spirit does not mention how the three disciples recognized them. However, we can see that Moses was the representative of the law and Elijah was the best prophet (prophet) to make us realize that Jesus is more precious than the prophets and Jesus who is more precious than the law. Jesus is more precious than the priests, scribes, and Sadducees who were bound by the Law at that time. The three disciples were so ecstatic. They ask Jesus. “Lord! It is good for us to be here... Shall we build a set of booths?” (Verse 4). Then a bright cloud covered them, and a voice came in. “My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, hear ye him” (verse 5). Hallelujah! May God bless you.
2 Corinthians 5:9 “Therefore, whether in body or absent, we strive to be pleasing to the Lord.”
Verse 8 “He saw no one except Jesus.” Whether you receive grace, be a deacon, be blessed, pray, study, or succeed, Jesus! Only Jesus is the most important. Like the confession of St. Francis, the confession of “All you need is Jesus” is important. The content of the text is change, with Jesus at the center and the conclusion “Jesus” means that the change in our life requires a change in the direction of Jesus, a change for the better, a change in the religious side, and a change in the spiritual direction. We who believe in Jesus must become saints who change ourselves, change others, and change the world.
