Meditation: To say that a couple lives together requires seeing themselves through each other and running towards a common goal. To do that, you have to take off the clothes that cover you with shame.
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
Text: “… Then their eyes were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made them a skirt… ” (Genesis 3:1-10)
Adam and Eve hid themselves because they could not reveal themselves because of their sin. And when they began to show their shame, they made and wore fig leaves. Shame is not the ultimate reason they made and wore skirts.
Verse 10 says that he hid because he was afraid. It wasn't just Adam and Eve who wore this garment. Today, it is worn by both husband and wife and family members.
The meaning of the Garden of Eden is 'the land of joy'. The same is true of married families. To marry, to build a home, and to live for joy. But as sin entered the Garden of Eden, that joy disappeared and fear came. There are a few clothes of fig leaves that a couple should take off.
One of them is the clothes of defense. As soon as men enter the house, they grab the newspaper and scan it from the first letter to the last, also wearing protective clothing.
If you hold the TV remote control and lie on your back and watch TV enough to break your neck, maybe you are putting on your own clothes of defense. Because, as a husband, it is the defense I have to protect my position and authority as the head of the household.
In verse 12 and below, the man blames the woman and the woman defers to the serpent. It is to pass the responsibility on to the other party.
You shouldn't be full of these clothes in your home. Another piece of clothing is distance clothing. Men and women speak different languages. Rather than understanding and accepting each other's feelings, they reject each other based on their own feelings. Conversation is necessary to resolve this sense of distance.
A good way to get rid of the fig leaves we wear is to be honest.
Being honest with each other opens the door to understanding. You have to be honest with yourself and with others. We must be honest with God.
Prayer: You don't know how beautiful and mysterious it is for two people to become one. Heavenly Father! Let us enjoy as these mysterious creatures. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
