Title Come and behold / John 1:35-46
Come see the content
(John 1:35-46)
Today's text records a scene in which one person evangelizes to another and that person to another. In verse 36, when John saw Jesus walking around, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God”, in verse 39 Jesus says, “Come and behold”, in verse 41 Andrew said to Simon, “We have found the Messiah”, in verse 46 Philip and Nathanael. It is written, "Come and see." To sum up the above, it is "Come!, Behold!, Speak!". According to statistics published by David Barett about 20 years ago, as of 1980, 32.8% of Christians worldwide and 24% of Christians in Korea. However, the number of Christians in Korea will increase by 6.2% every year to 42% by the year 2000. However, this is only possible if the church continues to preach the gospel. However, the Korean church is currently on a declining trend. This is because Christians cannot fulfill the role of light and salt and cannot emit the fragrance of Christ. In today's text, we can find three propositions of evangelism.
First, "Come!" is.
“Come” means to come to Christ, who came to this earth as the Lamb. Christ is the Messiah who will save mankind from sin. He is the God who created the world and humans, and He came to this earth as a human to save those who have no choice but to fall into sin and die. It is to come to him. Isaiah 1:18 says, "Come, let us reason with one another, though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." Only when you come to Jesus will your sins be forgiven. Those who come to Jesus have hope. You must come to the Lord to be healed and saved. come! This is the Lord's own invitation.
Second, "Look!" is.
In Isaiah 43:19, "Behold, I am doing a new thing, and it will now be revealed, do you not know it? Surely I make roads in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, whoever is in Christ If there is, then it is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” The word “behold” means to see the living and working of God, who saves people who have no choice but to fall into sin and die. It is to see people who came to God become new beings. Hymn 208 "The Lord Jesus came into my heart and then I became a new person... Lord Jesus came into my heart" This hymn is our confession.
Third, "Say it!" is.
The word “speak” means to speak about God who has accomplished this great work. When we evangelize, we will become successful evangelists if we only preach the words "Come and see". But the important thing here is that the evangelist who says this must first change himself fundamentally. You cannot evangelize unless you first radically change yourself. Those who have received the ministry cannot evangelize, but those who have met the Lord can do it. Anyone who has experience and faith in God can do it. In John 4:29, the Samaritan woman who met Christ also ran to the townspeople and preached, "Come and see." After hearing this, the townspeople were fascinated by the woman's sincere and confident attitude and came to Christ. Jesus said in Matthew 10:32,33, “If anyone confesses me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven. Remember that the life that is accepted is the proof that you have lived a successful life, and I pray that you will be able to testify boldly, "Come and see.
