Sermons for Preaching

Title Consult with the Holy Spirit

Contents

Hymn: 172 "Like dry grass in an empty field"

Meditation: Who do you call when you feel frustrated and unfair? The Holy Spirit is our Counselor, always with us everywhere. How can we counsel with the Holy Spirit?

Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed

main text… I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you forever... (John 14:15-24)

In verse 16, Jesus called the Holy Spirit “another Comforter.” The word Comforter has the original meaning of ‘one who is called aside to help’. The Holy Spirit is always with us forever and ever and is in us (16:16, 17) to help us. We are not orphans because the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, is with us (v. 18).

In verse 17, the Holy Spirit is “the Spirit of truth.” The fact that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth means that the Holy Spirit is the One who teaches and reminds us of Jesus who is the truth (14:6). The Holy Spirit instructs us, rebukes us, corrects us, and trains us (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

The Holy Spirit is also the ‘Spirit of Grace’. In Luke 24:49, the Holy Spirit is the “power from above,” who gives you the power to live the truth. The Holy Spirit gives strength to your heart. The Holy Spirit gives strength to your life. The Holy Spirit gives you courage and strength.

It was always so uncomfortable for a believer to do business with a stubborn businessman. After a bitter argument with the businessman, the believer asked the Holy Spirit for advice. “Let me know what to do. Please tell me how to solve this problem.” Then something amazing happened. The Holy Spirit told him to listen to the businessman and accept what he was saying. It was not that the businessman listened to him and understood his position, but that he had to listen to the businessman and understand his position.

If we keep the commandment of Jesus, ‘Love one another!’, the Holy Spirit helps us to realize that Jesus, who is invisible, unheard, and untouched, is more certainly alive than anyone who can be seen, heard, or touched. When you pray in the name of Jesus, you will surely receive answers to your prayers.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, always be obedient to the Holy Spirit so that I can always and everywhere be guided by the Holy Spirit. Practically consult with the Holy Spirit and live a blessed life.
