Sermons for Preaching

Title Covenant with Abraham

Contents

Hymn: 495 (Hymn 438) 'My soul is blessed'

Meditation: The Bible is made up of commands and promises. Abraham kept God's covenant like life. How much do we value and keep God's covenant today?

Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed

Text: “… I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations from you, and kings will come from you. 17:1~8)

The meaning of the name Abraham is 'father of a multitude, father of nations'. Abraham, who lived by loving God first, received the four great blessings later (the father of faith, the source of blessing, the blessing of his descendants, and the blessing of material things) and shows the saints an example of faith. What was Abraham's faith like?

First, they believed in God's covenant and left (Genesis 12:1). “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went out to a land that he was to receive as an inheritance, and he went out, not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8). Faith is not counting and arguing, but obedience to the Word.

Second, we made concessions for reconciliation (Gen. 13:8-9). Abraham humbled himself to be reconciled to his nephew Lot. Concession in the life of faith is very beautiful.

Third, we paid tites through faith (Genesis 14:20). Everything belongs to God, but there is something special about God. Sunday is God's day. The church is the house of God. The Bible is God's book. Tithes and offerings are God's money. All things of God must be given to God and kept.

Fourth, it is the absolute obedience of sacrificing Isaac (Genesis 22:10). Abraham believed the covenant and absolutely obeyed God. It is God-centered life and faith. We overcame difficult trials with faith.

Fifth, faith in the altar. (Genesis 12:7, 13:18) Abraham built an altar to God wherever he went. God is looking for worshipers and gives grace and blessings to those who worship in spirit and in truth. If you succeed in worship, you will be blessed and prosper in all things, but if you fail in worship, you will fail in everything.

Prayer: Heavenly Father who called and blessed Abraham! Let us also become people who obey the Word, and spread the gospel to many people and become a channel of blessing. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
