Unbelievers often think of the Bible as a story or myth made up by people. However, the Bible is the history book of God who rules the world. All human plans and efforts can come true only with God's help. What is the end of those who try to achieve in a human way?

1. Pride is the vanguard of destruction (verse 10).

The northern kingdom (Antiochus III) again invades the southern kingdom (Ptolemy IV). Lead and mobilize all troops. The king of the south is furious and confronts the kingdom of the north head-on. The result was a great victory for the southern kingdom. The victorious king of the south became proud, thinking that he had won with his wisdom and strength. The proud king of the south even deified himself. The reason for the victory of the southern kingdom was only the plan of God, who is the ruler of history, but the king of the south showed himself high.

Man always sets himself up and exalts himself with God behind him. This is a sin that takes away the glory of God. We must reveal God in all things and exalt God alone. Pride is the vanguard of destruction.

2. Violence brings destruction (verse 13).

The king of the north returns and regroups. Historically, Antiochus III, defeated by Ptolemy IV, counterattacked the southern kingdom. Prepare more armies than ever before, build more equipment, and join forces with other countries to invade the Southern Kingdom. The fiercest among the people of Judah came to the aid of the king of the north. But what returned to them was great calamity, slaughter, and religious persecution. This fact shows the consequences that arise when we act guided by human greed without considering God's will.

Human power and wisdom cannot exceed God's plan. All ferocious people are under the judgment of God.

3. Man's plans are futile (verse 17).

The king of the north changes tactics. He proposes peace to the southern kingdom, which has been fighting fiercely in the meantime. He also gives his daughter to the king of the south to make peace with the kingdom of the south and then devises a strategy to destroy the kingdom of the south. Then they attack the island nation in the Mediterranean. However, he is attacked by an unexpected general and takes a critical hit. Because of this, the king of the north was completely defeated in the war and died. All his strategies for victory are in vain. Human strategies without God will never succeed.

We should not have the heart to get things done by the wisdom and schemes of men. Everything depends on God. Therefore, we must not lose the mindset to ask God's will and work in God's way.

Human wisdom and strategy, even though they appear splendid and splendid, are foolish and useless in the sight of God. Are you still relying on human means and methods? Only God's will and God's way is the attitude of faith we should have.

<Prayer>

1. May we always seek Your will with humility
