There is a time for everything. There is a time to begin and a time to end, and a time to rise and decline. A wise man is the one who knows the right time for everything. God plans all these times in advance and fulfills them. The saints should prepare and obey the times God has given them with joy.
1. The fall of the northern kingdom (verse 28)
The pride of the king of the north (Epiphanes) grew out of control. He invaded Jerusalem, seized the temple, changed the high priest at will, and stationed an army of Gentiles in the city. And he went on an overseas expedition again. He led a large army and advanced with the ambition to occupy all of Egypt. However, it produced worse results than the first invasion. His pride gradually lost its power.
In this way, human power and throne are not eternal, but finite. The king of the north, who failed to invade, proceeds with the Hellenization of Judea in order to secure the loyalty of the Jews. It is mainly done in the religious field. Epiphanes' actions foreshadow the events of the great tribulation of the end times that will persecute God's people.
2. Predetermined Victory (verse 31)
The king of the north takes his anger out on the failure of the expedition to the temple of God. His army defiled the Holy of Holies, and he abolished the sacrifices offered to God and set up a pagan idol he believed in (Zeus) in the temple. They tried to change Jewish religious ceremonies into Greek customs, such as sacrificing pork, which the law defines as an unclean animal. In this turbulent time, the people dedicated to God rose up valiantly and fought against the covenant-breakers and the filthy northern armies. God struck the proud king of the north through them.
Even now, God's people are in a spiritual warfare with Satan. In this war, God's people must fight and win wisely and valiantly. At this time, the saints must be convinced that the victory is already ours.
3. The coming end times (verse 33)
Spiritual leaders who have received the wisdom of God rise up and teach people. However, they will face hardship and persecution from the world. Even today, God's people who preach the gospel face various great and small hardships all over the world. A lot of people fall into this affliction. But for those who endure hardship and overcome, God's promised reward is prepared. It is so great and glorious that it cannot be compared with suffering.
Saints should not avoid or fear suffering. We must bear the cross of suffering with joy while looking at the glorious reward that will be given after victory. Satan's persecution and persecution have an end. Are you struggling with the hardships and persecutions of your life right now? Don't be afraid. Don't despair. I hope that you will become soldiers who only look at the cross until the end.
Christianity is the history of redemption. Jesus Christ offers salvation to everyone who believes. On the last day, every Christian will sing a triumphant hymn with the Lord. I hope that everyone will participate in receiving the kingdom of God as an inheritance by persevering and winning without giving in to the temporary sufferings of the world.
