Title: Daniel's Advice

Text: (Daniel 4:19-27)

Hymns: 327. peace from the Lord

Date: January 16, 2011 (Sunday) 5:00 am

Venue: Jeonju Yebut Church Small Worship Room

In life, there are times when I give advice to someone, and there are times when I get advice from someone. It's not always nice to get advice. But you have to listen to them in order to grow. In today's text, Daniel delivers God's warning to Nebuchadnezzar. Let's see what it means together.

1. Daniel’s appearance (verse 19)

Daniel was troubled when he realized that the revelation given through the king's dream was God's discipline. It was quite dangerous to say that he would be deprived of his position by a king who possessed absolute power enough to drop a flying bird and would be driven out, and he would become a madman and live like a wild beast. But Daniel was more concerned about the punishment Nebuchadnezzar would receive than his own comfort. Through Daniel's actions, we can see the image of a true prophet. Daniel always wanted to do the right thing, and he was honest with everyone. This is why he was recognized by the kings of the Gentiles.

How are we judged by unbelievers? Christ is judged by our appearance. I hope that you will become a mature Christian who is not ashamed of yourself.

2. The heart of God (verse 26)

A well-grown tree signifies the king's heyday, and the fall of a tree signifies the tragedy the king will experience. No matter how big and beautiful a tree is, it is powerless if God does not allow his authority. The tree representing God's rule must carry out the Lord's will. Meanwhile, God leaves the stump of the tree. Daniel says that after realizing why the king left the stump, the kingdom is strengthened. However, if the king does not realize it through the dream, seven times of judgment will come as punishment. The ax has already been laid at the root of the tree, but God is still merciful.

3. Daniel's advice (verse 27)

After interpreting the dream, Daniel advises the king what to do. Declaring that doing justice and showing mercy to the poor is the way to escape from imminent judgment, atonement for sins, and the long-lasting peace of a king. When the king realizes that he has received the rulership of Babylon from God, he must obey the word he received in his dream. That is what strengthens the kingship. God considers doing righteousness and fairness more pleasing than sacrifice. God speaks through people of faith. So we must listen to them. God communicates His will through His Word, but He also works through people.

A person of faith never forgets the grace of God. They do not despise God with pride. We believe in the power of Almighty God and have courage in any situation. I hope that you will become a person of bold faith who does not doubt God's plan and power for you by abandoning your pride and completely relying on God.
