Text: Acts 1:12-14
The church is the house of prayer for all. In order for a church to be like a church, above all else, the fire of prayer must be continuous. The early Jerusalem church was born through the Darakbang prayer meeting, and it took off as a powerful church. It was a church that showed a true example to the world. Then why did they gather in the attic?
1. We gathered in the attic of Zionso of Grace.
(1) In verse 13, the words, “I went up to the upper chamber…” are found. The word "attic" here is the Greek word "huperoi", which means "an upper room".
Also, the definite article "to" is added before it to teach "that attic". Therefore, that darakbang means "already well-known darakbang". That is, it means "Mark's upper room where the Last Supper was shared" (Luke 12:22). There, the disciples experienced the endless love of Jesus. It is also the place where the resurrected Jesus came to comfort him twice (John 20:19-20, 26-28). Therefore, this upper room was truly a place of unforgettable grace and a place of promise to send the Holy Spirit. . Therefore, they were gathered in this place of grace, the attic.
(2) Mark's upper room was the cradle of the early church, the southern sanctuary of the Jerusalem church, and the starting point of the world church. In fact, almost all of the early churches started in small families, the church in Ephesus started in the house of Aquila and Priscilla, and the church in Laodicea started in the house of Rumba.
(3) Today we will have to make our home a small church. In other words, it should be a place of grace, a place of prayer, and a spiritual school that raises children with the word of the Lord. However, more importantly, we cherish and love the Zion of grace that the Lord Himself has established, and strive to gather there. (Hebrews 10:23-25) When we gather, strength rises. You can get rid of loneliness. The problem will be resolved. You can love more passionately and do your work. Therefore, I pray in the name of Jesus that we too will not leave the place of grace, the promised place, and pray diligently to become the saints who receive more and more abundant spiritual blessings.
2. Those who believed in the Lord's promise gathered together.
(1) Verse 13 says, “Be of the same mind.” The total number of people in the attic was about 120. The characteristics of those gathered here were, first, those who deeply believed in the promises of Jesus. Second, they were those who left everything for Jesus and followed Him. Third, they were ready to follow Jesus wherever He went.
(2) They saw Christ's death on the cross. Before Jesus died on the cross, when He promised that He would rise again on the third day, they were actually skeptical. However, as promised, they are those who have witnessed Jesus, who broke the power of death on the third day and resurrected as the King of kings. Therefore, they firmly believed in this promise and gathered in Mark's upper room. (Acts 1:4-5)
(3) Today, even when we gather in God's spiritual Zion and pray, we must have unwavering faith in His promises. They believed all these promises and waited in unison. (John 14:16-18, 16:7-8, Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4-5) Finally, the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, came upon them in this waiting. Therefore, we pray in the name of Jesus Christ that we too will become believers who believe in the promise and wait.
3. We all gathered to focus on prayer.
(1) In verse 14, it says, “We were all devoted to prayer with one mind.” Here, "of one mind" is the Greek word "homotumadon", which means "same mind". This means that we prayed as “one heart and soul”. In our prayer life, we need deep personal prayer in our closet. It is a prayer that nourishes an individual's heart. However, in building and revitalizing the holy church of God, united prayer is necessary in which all people become one and pray with all their heart.
(2) In particular, he said, "He devoted himself to prayer." This word is "proscartetun tes", which means "Steadfastly continuing". In other words, despite various internal and external barriers, he did not become discouraged and continued to pray with a consistent heart and devotion. This prayer, holding on to discouragement and continuing to pray until the answer is received, will finally open the door of the heavenly warehouse.
(3) This week is the period of Darakbang prayer meeting waiting for the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. Before the testimony of the Early Church, the church was filled with the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, by praying together and waiting. Also, by receiving that power, he overcame all trials and became the most beautiful ideal church. In other words, it has become a church that is full of the grace of salvation, a church that breaks bread every day and shares fellowship with love, a faithful church, and a church where the number of disciples increases every day. Now, this week, we too should gather at the place of grace. And since everyone believes in the promise and prays as one body, we pray in the name of Jesus that you will be filled with the Holy Spirit and become powerful witnesses of the gospel.
