Title Day of Settlement (Matthew 25:14)
Content This is different from the parables that show what to do on the day of the Lord's Second Coming. The Lord's coming will come at an unexpected time for most people, so the emphasis so far has been on the importance of keeping an eye on the times and preparing for it. The point of this parable gives a new direction. This parable warns of the importance of using the things the Lord has entrusted to you for His glory.
I. The gifts of talents were according to their respective abilities.
A. The talent here is not that you can sing well or play an instrument well. A talent here is a unit of weight. Therefore, the number of talents means the value according to the weight of gold or silver.
1. Notice that everyone has received something. “God has dispensed to each person a measure of faith (Romans 12:3).
a. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit gives the gifts of the Holy Spirit to each person according to his will.
b. God has given each of us things that will be used for His kingdom and glory, and we will see commitment to them.
2. Some received more than others. It is explained that the amount of talent is according to their abilities.
a. God doesn't ask for more than what you can do or what you can't achieve.
b. God will inquire about those things done as things left to His discretion.
B. At this point we will all have to ask ourselves how. “What has God given us to spend for God’s sake?
1. What do I have to use for the Lord and to expand His kingdom?
C. When the master left, they each did something with the talents they had been given.
1. The one who had received the five talents went out, took them, and traded them, leaving five talents
2. The one who received the two talents did the same and gained two talents.
3. The one who received one talent wrapped it in a towel and buried it in the ground. 'He buried his master's money in the ground."
II. After a long time, the master of the servants returned and sat with them.
A. Notice that the master of the servants returned after a long time.
1. Other parables emphasized that the Second Coming of the Lord would happen unexpectedly. "At an unexpected time..."
2. As the parable of the ten virgins, it shows that the appearance of the bridegroom came later than they had expected, and that they all slept and slept. There was also an unexpected element, and there was a surprise when the bridegroom came.
3. No doubt Jesus was telling them that His coming would come later than they expected.
4. Personally, I believe the Second Coming of Jesus is imminent, but it may be slower than I expected. But I will continue to live in anticipation of the appearance of the Second Coming of Jesus.
B. It is not only important when Jesus comes.
1. It is important that Jesus is coming again.
2. It is important that I watch and prepare for the Lord when he comes again.
3. It is important that I am doing something that the Lord has left to my discretion.
C. The day of the Lord's return will be the judgment day of the world. In the later declarations that close this chapter, the truth that the kingdoms of the world will be judged on the day of the Lord's coming was emphasized.
D. The day of the Lord's coming will also be an accounting day for his church.
We will give the Lord an account of what we have done with the things He has entrusted to us. "Accounting with them"
1. Paul declares this:
(2 Corinthians 5:10) "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive according to what he has done in the body, whether good or bad."
2. Jesus said
(Matthew 16:27) "The Son of Man will come in the glory of the Father with his angels, and then he will repay each one according to what he has done."
3. Paul warned:
(Romans 2:5) “But according to your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for me in the day of wrath, when the righteous judgment of God is revealed.” (Romans 2:6) “God will reward each one according to what he has done” (Romans 2:7) “To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory and honor and immortality, eternal life.” (Romans 2:8) “But wrath and wrath to those who are selfish and not after the truth, but after unrighteousness.” (Romans 2:9) and also to the Greeks" (Romans 2:10) "Glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good: to the Jew first, and also to the Greek" (Romans 2:10).
4. Paul said again.
(Romans 14:10) “Why do you judge your brother? Why do you despise your brother? We will all stand before the judgment seat of God.” (Romans 14:11) Every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” (Romans 14:12) “Therefore, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.”
E. The one who had received the five talents came and spoke with five more talents. “Lord, you have given me five talents; behold, I have gained five more.”
1. His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant, since you have been faithful over a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.'
2. The same thing happened to those who received the two talents.
3. Notice that their compliments are exactly the same. The difference between five and two is not a problem. The important thing is that they did something.
F. Then the one who had received one talent came and began to give his excuses.
First, he mentioned the misunderstanding of the master. "You are a hard man." Jesus said. “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” “Because I knew you were a reaper where you did not sow…” It was stolen, so Jesus does not do it. I am afraid that I will bury the talent you have given me in the ground and say, “Here it is. Take what is yours.”
1. The master rebuked him for his wickedness, probably because of the concept of the master.
2. The master also rebuked his laziness. The real reason was the fact that he did nothing that the master had entrusted to him.
3. If you truly knew that I am a reaper where I did not sow, then you will leave this money with the Zurich and then return to me to receive the principal and interest.
The talents that had been given to him because of his indolence were removed from him and given to those who had diligently put to good use what his master had given him.
1. If you are faithful to use what God has in your hands, God will keep adding to you.
2. What are you doing with the things that God has left at your discretion?
3. Therefore let man judge for himself, and if we examine us, we will not be judged by God.
