How do we feel when we go to places we've never been? Perhaps you are anxious and afraid. The Israelites had to continue their journey in the wilderness with fear and no knowledge of the future. With what kind of heart did they really look to God?
1. spy out and fear (verse 21)
In the text, Moses recalls the Kadesh-Barnea incident, which was the reason Israel had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. In the past, the Israelites who left Mount Horeb and reached Kadesh-Barnea selected 12 spies and sent them to Canaan to gather information about the land of Canaan. Moses said that there is no need to fear the land of Canaan because God is with him. But the people suggested that they send spies to investigate the situation in Canaan. The reason the Israelites sent spies was because they looked at the environment rather than God. Their actions were unbelievable.
Our lives are also unpredictable. So it's scary sometimes. But if we only look and depend on God, we need not fear. Only peace and thanksgiving will overflow to those who look to God.
2. To grumble and become discouraged (verse 27)
The 10 spies who returned from spying out the land of Canaan frightened the people with their negative words and attitudes. The Israelites were afraid of entering the land of Canaan and blamed God. They raised their resentment that God hated them. Although God loved them and led them out of Egypt, they continued to doubt God the Savior. Israel did not believe in God's promises. They did not trust the work of God that had been done to them. If you do not trust God, you will try to overcome difficulties in a human way.
What are you discouraged from right now? Please remember that the God who is with us is bigger than our problems.
3. Fight and go ahead (29)
Moses tells the people not to be afraid. Victory is guaranteed because God personally fights the Canaanite natives. Just as a man embraces his son, God will take Israel into his arms and protect him, and he will go ahead of Israel to Canaan and lead the way.
Even now, God is planning and preparing the future path of the saints. He also does what he has planned ahead of time. The answers to many of life's problems are not within us. Only in God. Sometimes we disappoint God, but God leads us to the end. Don't be afraid. God is going ahead of us today.
People of God must live with God's Word as the 'constitution of life'. There are promises and blessings, victory and salvation in the Word of God. If you doubt or disbelieve the Word of God, fear and resentment will come and you will become discouraged. I hope you will live a victorious life by relying on God's Word.
