Today, sexual crimes are increasing year by year. This leads to the destruction of personality and the breakdown of the family. The Bible clearly emphasizes sexual purity and strictly forbids taking over another person's sexual control by physical force. Through this text, we would like to think about the sexual ethics that men and women should follow.
1. To both men and women (verse 22)
The 7th of the Ten Commandments is “You shall not commit adultery.” Any physical relationship other than a permitted one is an act of dishonesty and a crime that destroys the family. If a person commits an unfaithful act with a spouse, both of them should be held accountable. In the Old Testament, they were all killed. Adultery with a spouse is a serious cause of marital destruction, and it is a crime that destroys not only one's own family but also the family of another. Just because your heart wants you doesn't mean you can do it all. Our emotions must be controlled by reason. Married people should focus their attention and love on their God-matched spouse and children. We must purify the desires of our hearts with the fire of the Holy Spirit.
2. To women (verses 23-27)
The Old Testament also strictly regulates sexual misconduct by others. If a man slept with an engaged woman in the castle, both are put to death. This is to hold them accountable for destroying other families and not actively denying them. This is because the term ‘seongan’ means a place where two people actively or passively agree. Conversely, there is a provision to protect victims from forced sleeping in the fields. Because they believe that it was caused by an irresistible force. In an era when women's human rights were not protected at all, these regulations contain the legal spirit to protect women who are weak. You have the primary responsibility to protect yourself from sexual temptation. Therefore, care must be taken at all times to avoid unpleasant incidents.
3. To the men (verses 28-30)
In a male-dominated society, when men's physical strength and desire are used irresponsibly, they commit many sins and have side effects. If a man forcibly takes a woman he is not engaged to, he must give the woman's father 50 silver shekels. You must also be married and live together for the rest of your life, and you cannot divorce. This is to hold you accountable for your impulsive behavior. There are people who ruin their lives because they do not control the lusts of the flesh well. Unlike other sins, sexual activity has a great physical, mental, and spiritual impact on self and others. Only the Word can purify our conduct. We need to seek the filling of the Holy Spirit to give us responsible love and mature emotional expression.
Everyone has the right to make decisions about their sexual behavior, which should be respected. The freedom we are given when we respect each other within the given standards and are temperate, gives us happiness and true satisfaction. The saints should pray daily that they will control sexual immorality, indulgence and lust, and live a life of purity, temperance and holiness.
